About this book
Best-sellers for over thirty years, Lemon-Aid guides are unlike any other auto books on the market. Their main objective is to inform and protect consumers in an industry known for its dishonesty, where exaggerated claims remain unchanged. This brand new edition - the first in the series that covers used cars, trucks, "and" SUVs - is packed with insider tips to help you select a used vehicle that is as safe and as cheap as you want. It covers everything from the latest GM cutbacks, "secret warranties," to average seller markups. Plus, there are tons of useful tips on when you should buy, sell, or hold, and which models make the best $1,000-$3,000 "beaters." Filled with summaries of memos and service bulletins, this book is an easy-read guaranteed to teach you a thing or two (or three, or four ...) and more about used vehicles in Canada.

About this book
This illustrated history chronicles electric and hybrid cars from the late 19th century to today's fuel cell and plug-in automobiles. It describes the politics, technology, marketing strategies, and environmental issues that have impacted electric and hybrid cars' research and development. The important marketing shift from a "woman's car" to "going green" is discussed. Milestone projects and technologies such as early batteries, hydrogen and bio-mass fuel cells, the upsurge of hybrid vehicles, and the various regulations and market forces that have shaped the industry are also covered.

Excellent For GM Cars with older ONSTAR Units

My wife drives a 2007 Suburban and we had been trying to figure out how to connect her phone to the ONSTAR system. We had a free year of Onstar through our Insurance and while we had it, I bought 'minutes' from GM so she could use the phone system built into the car. But we really wanted to use our own cell phones and the ONSTAR unit in my wifes car did not have the Bluetooth option. I spent several months talking to dealers, ONSTAR, and a GM Rep to see if her unit could be upgraded. I offered to pay for the unit and for two years of ONSTAR if they would just upgrade the unit but was repeatedly told "NO". I know it could be done as I had read stories of owners getting newer units from salvage and doing so.While ONSTAR was nice when we had it, there was no way I was going to pay for it if we could not use our phones. At that point I began looking for systems that worked with ONSTAR that would allow me to use my own cell phone, there are none!I then looked... 5/5 Larry Carnes - See all my reviews, September 27, 2012

    Easily installed and works great!

I installed this in a 2005 Chevy Avalanche. I had been previously using a Plantronics Bluetooth and wanted to install a car kit. I have never used OnStar and didn't want a subscription to something just to have hands free over the stereo speakers. This system is the perfect conversion. In a 2005 Avalanche, open the glove box and empty the contents. With slight pressure, press in on the right side of the glove box plastic to release the catch (no tools required). Inside the glove box opening in the upper left is the silver OnStar box. Unplug the two connectors and plug them into the Costar BlueSTAR unit. Tuck the BlueSTAR up out of the way so you can close the glove box and your finished. This seriously took me about 3 minutes, mostly because there isn't a lot of slack in the wires to the connectors. The pairing was simple and is now automatic when I start the truck (like uConnect in my wife's Jeep Grand Cherokee). Connection is established and terminated with the... 5/5 T. Easy to Install (Even TWICE!)

I purchased this adapter to install an aftermarket radio into my 2004 GMC Envoy. It was very easy to install and works as described. The "chime" that it replaces the factory chime with is a bit awkward sounding at first, but it isn't all that bad.Just incase you're not entirely sure what this does... In some vehicles (I'm not sure exactly which ones so you'll have to do your own research), the factory installed radios control various other functions such as the chimes. In my 2004 Envoy, the radio also stays on after you turn off the truck until you open a door. This feature and the chimes are lost if you remove the factory radio without using the GMOS-01 adapter.Just make sure it functions properly BEFORE you button everything up! I received a faulty unit the first time around and had to wait for a couple of days to get a new one. If your chimes don't work (the unit's default volume is loud enough) or if the radio stays on after you open your door, then... 4/5 M. McDonough (Albany, NY) - See all my reviews, February 18, 2010

    Overpriced POS!

This is the most cheaply made, overpriced POS! I ordered one for my 02' Envoy and installed it following directions to a tee. Directions were very easy and well written. The chimes and Onstar worked but the reciever would not turn on. I returned it for a replacement and the next unit turned the radio on, but I had no chimes or Onstar and the radio would not shut off! I had to turn off manually...even with the key out of the ignition. I called Access direct for tech support with no luck. It was another defective unit! Now I am waiting for a third one. Hopefully the third time is the charm. I looked into this product and found that is has alot of problems. Unfortunatly, you will need it for Onstar, chimes and memory when you turn off the vehicle. I will use another brand if this one arrives defective.Ok...Got the third one in and it works. All of the chimes do not...like my low fuel chime for example. Works as advertised. Watch out for typos in directions.

I upgraded the stock radio in my 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix and I used this harness as well as the ASWC-1 harness for my car. Both items from Axxess. I am an IT professional with intermediate experience with wiring, soldering, etc. I must say, with the harnesses provided, it was an easy install. The nice thing about having both wiring harnesses from the same company is that the wiring piece for the steering wheel control harness (ASWC-1) was already built into the GMOS harness. So, I saved some time and energy wiring things up.Wiring was very easy and involved snipping some unused wires (that are used for other model radios) and soldering a few others (you can wire tie them but solder is a better connection). The only difficult part of the install was fitting the harness wire bundles behind the head unit but a little maneuvering fixed that. One thing I will point out is the wiring instructions in the GMOS manual was inaccurate. K-Summit: Good and Bad

The good news is that these chains actually DO self-adjust onto the tire - ONCE YOU GET THE SIZE CORRECTLY ADJUSTED. The pictorial guide had me remove 4 of the cross bolts, and I had to remove one more because I have "mud and snow" tires. MAKE SURE you get these sized and adjusted BEFORE you get to the snow. I would hate to have to try to do this in the cold and snow on the side of the road. The bad news is that the ratchet mechanism is too flimsy, and you can EASILY damage it by over-tightening while ratcheting in the chains. So be careful.Note to Thule: If you had actually used words in your instructions (instead of cryptic and hard-to-understand pictorials) I might have avoided this problem. In this case, a couple of words (e.g., "Do not over-tighten the ratchet, because we used a flimsy design") would have been worth a thousand pictures. Also - the pictorial instructions on how to select the correct stand-offs for the lug nut bolt were VERY... 3/5 Gary Mansfield (Livermore, CA USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Excellent Engineering, but did not fit my wheels

I couldn't wait to get these, given Seattle's unexpected week of ice. The chains fit several tire sizes with clear instructions for removing 0 - 4 sizing clips for each size (all four for my 225/50-R17). These are as easy on/off as this video shows ([...] No need to get knees wet, or lay on the ground. The chains ride only on the tread and not on the back of the wheel/tire, requiring no inside clearance. The thin cable chains add only about 10mm to the top clearance. The ice grips are aggressive and the chain angles will provide lateral slide resistance. The set came with the tools needed to remove the clips and mount the lugs. The clips are put on from the factory with something like "Lock-tite". Recommend a 7mm socket to replace the wrench and your own good set of metric Allen wrenches (3mm).Only problem was the lug locking mechanism was too shallow to fit my deeply recessed lugs on the standard wheels of my car (Infiniti I-30t). This should... 4/5 Melissa E. Davis (Seattle) - See all my reviews, January 4, 2009

Works as advertised, but check your lugnut/bolt size

The K-22s work just as advertised. It takes a little extra effort the first time or two, but once you get used to the system, these are the easiest chains to put on you'll ever own. The traction seems VERY good, and the chains tighten around the tire perfectly. It almost feels like they are part of the tire (which means them off sometimes takes a little effort - just be sure you have some gloves you don't mind getting a bit dirty)I drive a car with 21mm lugnuts. These ship with 17 and 19mm fittings, so be sure that if you have a car with larger lugnuts you get the adapter. (Prius owners, this means you). They are available from [...] if Amazon is sold out.I haven't had these for very long, but they seem to be very high quality. The warranty is 1 year, but I would expect them to last much longer. And yes, the price is a little high, but it is a lot less than the cost of damage rims and certainly a lot less than internal damage to your cars braking mechanisms or... 4/5 Travis Woodland (Moscow, ID USA) - See all my reviews, December 14, 2009

Need bluetooth, like mp3s, no aux jack, look no further!!

This is a very capable bluetooth system. Parrot has made a great product. If self-installing, it is strongly recommend that you utilize the harness recommended by the manufacturer on their website. This could have been a complicated install, but it was actually plug and play. The mki9200 was installed in a 2005 Honda Accord Hybrid with Navigation. Many diagnostic functions of the car are inextricably integrated with the NAV/stereo system, so I was definitely not going to take out the NAV. Furthermore, the Navigation/stereo work great. The problem that needed to be solved was getting a way to play mp3 without using an FM transmitter (FM transmitters are notorious for horrible sound/interference, etc.) and getting bluetooth in this vehicle without replacing the NAV/stereo system. This is where the Parrot Mki9200 answered all these needs. Fantastic solution

This unit reminds me of an apple product at its best -- it does exactly what it is supposed to do, elegantly and intuitively.About a year ago, I installed a USA-Spec solution to play my i-pod through my factory stereo. It had taken a while to find a hard-wired ipod solution which allowed continued use of satellite radio, which was very important. The USA-Spec did the job, but with a number of significant limitations. First, while it displayed track information through the factory stereo display, the limitations of that display (a single line of text) made it less than ideal. Second, I found the control of the ipod through the factory stereo awkward -- it was hard to scroll through artists, albums, tracks, etc., due to frequent lags in loading the information and automatically selecting the displayed menu selection after a few seconds. Basically, this product did provide a hard-wired ipod connection and retained my factory satellite, but the limitations on the... 5/5 J. Perry (virginia usa) - See all my reviews, April 10, 2010

Easy to Put on, Better than Cables

0 5/5 Wowhead - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Thule 16mm XB16 High Quality SUV/Truck Snow Chain, Size 245 (Sold in pairs) (Misc.) These are solid chains, and don't feel as flimsy as cables. My friend's snow cables broke on his way down from Big Bear Lake, CA. He had just bought them the day before. The instructions are fairly simple to follow, and the colored links make it simple to determine where to connect everything. (You can see the red connections in the picture.) You may have to drive a little bit and then re-tighten the links since each chain is made for several different sized tires. This is easily done by disconnecting one connection and pulling it tighter before reconnecting it.When I put these on my 2007 Honda CR-V, I was easily done in a few minutes for each tire. While other people were getting stuck at the snow/iced filled parking lot in Big Bear using their cables, I was able to easily get out without a single problem. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , February 4, 2010

UPDATED REVIEW: My earlier review only gave this unit 4/5 stars because it wouldn't download the address book from my iPhone 3G. Please read on and see how this issue was resolved.I got this unit yesterday at Mickey Shorr (Canton, MI). They installed it in my 2006 Eddie Bauer Ford Explorer in about an hour and I was off and running. The iPod integration is top notch. Using the touchscreen controls I instantaneously scroll back and forth between songs. So for the guy who installed this unit in his F-150, I'm not sure why you're experiencing the latency issue of 10-15 seconds to scroll to the next song, or go back one track. I feel bad for him because I'm thrilled with the speed and ease of use. The GPS is from Garmin who I believe to be the best. GPS in the unit is very accurate and could NOT be easier to use. Overall, with 15-20 minutes of fooling around I was able to master all the controls of the DNX6960 and same with my wife (since it's in her car).I... 5/5 Adam Chalmers (Michigan) - See all my reviews, October 31, 2010

The unit I have been looking for

I was looking at the DNX9960 and this unit to replace the Pioneer F90BT that started to give trouble. I ended up going with this unit because it was much more affordable, the features I were interested in were more or less the same, and the form and screen size were very similar to the F90BT. It is not as modifiable as the pioneer but performance-wise it surpasses the F90BT by far. The interface is easy to learn, however setting the configuration for the optimum sound took a little work. The garmin navigation is my preference - I am familiar with the interface and maps are easily available for any area (I am not using this unit in the US). The pre-outs are 5volt as compared to the 3volts on the pioneer. I am using this with an infinity 5350A multichannel amplifier and infinity components with a pioneer low-profile subwoofer, and the sound I am getting now as compared to the pioneer seems to be packing a little more juice. All in all, I am very satisfied with this head unit and would... 4/5 Big Shane (Humble, TX) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) TERRIBLE iPod integration!!

After installing this head unit in my 2008 Ford F150 I got very excited. This really is a classy head unit in most respects. I've got my phone paired with the Bluetooth, the navigation seems very nice, Sirius radio sounds very good, even my steering wheel controls seem to work decently with the PAC SWIJACK, but... I used the Kennwood KCA-IP301V adapter to control my 120 GB iPod Classic. Immediately I noticed that it takes anywhere from 5 to 10 seconds (more often closer to 10) to switch forward or backward between songs, or to choose the songs from the list menu. Basically whenever you switch songs the unit freezes for the 10 seconds or whatever, and then resumes. Album artwork loads just as slowly too, which I really wouldn't mind being quicker, but would sacrifice in a heartbeat if it meant I could navigate between songs quicker. Also, when trying to navigate through my music using the A-Z menu, only about half of the letters actually brings up music that starts with that... 2/5 T-Bone "Tony407" (Portland, OR) - See all my reviews This review is from: Kenwood Excelon DNX6960 6.1" In-Dash Double-DIN Navigation DVD Receiver (Electronics) After installing this head unit in my 2008 Ford F150 I got very excited. I have had this product some time now,it IS actually a good product, bluetooth connects seamlessly, but do note,if you have a password and or lock on your phone you will need to re connect manually everytime.I would suggest the Metra harness kit (minor research at the Metra website will identify your needs quickly),also get the surround kit too, mine is in a 2006 F150 Lariat, wife enjoys watching movies when we go on long journeys, dont advocate it to everyone but earth the brake wire to the unit or neagative and will play while driving.Just saying is all.Now it IS a basic unit so dont expect to download pictures or the like,no background choices and boring display when in radio or cd mode, but ipod works very well as do the headrest monitors those you can buy from Amazon also at a way low price for a pair, equally simple to install..................to finish, for the price point it is a good basic or starter unit. You cannot integrate a cd changer with this unit,it is designed for single... 5/5 Chris - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great for the price

I use to have a pioneer avic z1 that was $2k or so new until it was stolen out of my car. For $200 bucks this is not a replacement of what that did, but it is great for the price. The tv clarity is good, but you better have some tinted windows and make the brightness 100% to see anything at day time. Very capable of viewing from different angles and at night time, competes with said pioneer. the radio works fine and i use the remote so i can get to my presets and turn off the display. The display is very blue and quite annoying and cheap looking. The touchscreen works well, the BT is nice as it loads up the phone once the car is started and will allow you to play pandora wirelessly. Sound is good for music, the eq doesnt seem to offer to much range, but it did make me realize i have a stock subwoofer in the trunk. there are a couple of input/output cables for more tv's/ps3 etc. that is nice. ive yet to use any of the other options.I recommend this for people who would... 4/5 aa - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Not bad for the price

0 3/5 johnny.oney - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Pyle PLDN74BTI 7-Inch Double-DIN TFT Touchscreen DVD/VCD/CD/MP3/MP4/CD-R/USB/SD-MMC Card Slot/AM/FM/iPod Connector and Bluetooth (Electronics) The LCD screen is pretty dim, but it's okay quality outside of any sunlight. The Bluetooth works surprisingly well. I paired my Nexus One to it and was streaming Pandora in under a min, and it pairs every time I get in range. The DVD works well also. If you have a Ford, you "will" need an antenna adapter. The research I did said you wouldn't, but... For under $200.00 you really can't beat it, so that's why I'm not complaining; however, I would have given it four stars if the screen wasn't so dim. I'm hoping I just didn't hook up the dimmer wire properly or something, so I'm going to have a professional take a look at it when I go pick up my antenna adapter just to make sure. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , May 7, 2011
