0 5/5 RichReviewedIt - See all my reviews This review is from: Beckett 51771U Electronic Oil Igniter For use with: Burner Model Beckett A, AF, AFG. Ignitor/Transformer Yes, you can use this to replace the old Franceformer 5LAY-04 Transformer/Igniter that sits on the 1996 and earlier Beckett Burners used in Thermo Pride systems. My system was a Thermo Pride system. I used the 51771U and possibly saved hundreds by 1. Doing it myself and 2. Buying this part instead of the old style. The local parts house wanted over $100.00 just for the old style replacement transformer. I bought the 51771U for under $50.00 and didn't have to wait for shipping or anything. I would advise not to attempt this if you are not that familiar with wiring or the dangers involved with this high output igniter. SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH COULD OCCUR. Please label this as helpful because I wish I had this information available when I was without heat. lol. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , January 14, 2012

    Replaces old style transformer

I ordered this through Amazon and it was shipped from Patriot Supply. This is the second part I have received from Patriot Supply and they both arrived over night with standard shipping. The parts arrived before I got email notification they were shipped. The unit is a direct replacement for the old transformer on the Beckett burner. It is easy to install and comes with all the parts needed. It took me about 10-15 minutes to replace the transformer. Before starting, turn off the main power to the burner. The one thing you have to watch out for is the wire connection. It didn't matter on the old transformer, the wire connections were interchangable. The electronic unit must have the white wire connected to the house or burner common/ground, normally the white wire. The blue/white wire is connected to the power lead, normally the orange wire coming from the safety cut out. This is not mentioned in the instructions that come with the unit. A friend of mine that services burners told me... 4/5 Buttons - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Solved the problem

0 5/5 Richard Forester - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Beckett 51771U Electronic Oil Igniter For use with: Burner Model Beckett A, AF, AFG. Ignitor/Transformer I had a continuing problem with a weak ignition on my oil furance, which caused my (Beckett model "A" "AFG" F-head) to not start, I replaced the original iron core ignition transformer with this new solid state electronic oil igniter and the problem was immeddiately solved. This new solid state transformer is one quarter the size and weight of the old unit and was easy to install by following the insturtions supplied (make sure you follow the instruction about the white neutral being connected to your white neutral, the old iron core ignition transformer had two black wires only so it made no differance on the hook-up) I wish I had check the ignition first instead adjusting and trouble-shooting every thing else first I could have saved my-self a lot of time. The price of this part was reasonable and well worth it, the shipping was fast and well packed, the instruction easy to follow, I would recommend this product as a fix to anyone with reasonable mechanical skills. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , January 28, 2013

    Very Short Lived Transformer

0 1/5 Strahwk - See all my reviews This review is from: Carlin 41000 Electronic Ignitor-Oil 41000S I replaced my 25 year old transformer after it finally failed, with a 41000 series transformer for a Beckett burner. It lasted 13 months. Fortunately the local plumbing supply covered the replacement. These are not robust like the old style iron core transformers. I am not hopeful to get more than a year or two out of it. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , March 19, 2013

    Don't be taken

0 5/5 Jeff Haines - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Honeywell R8184G4009 International Oil Burner Control (Tools & Home Improvement) Last year the fuel oil furnace started running funny. Kicking on for about a minute, not blowing out any heat then shutting off. (Sucks in November) Did some research and was about 99% sure this and the accessories is what I needed to fix it. Just to be sure, I called the furnace people out to do the yearly clean and check and sure enough this is what I needed. He went to his truck and got the prices. A.K.A. the Christmas party money quote and said it was going to be around $500. Me: O.K. Thanks for coming out. Him: Don't you want me to fix it? Me: Uh, no. Seriously, I am handy at nothing. Just ask my dad. Bought this, the wiring and some other little part, put it in and it worked. Just check online resources before paying these jackwads a lot a money to do something simple. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 3, 2010

Do It Yourself and save $$$

I had the exact same experience as Jeff Haines' review. I also am NOT a fixit guy. Jeff's review, plus the fact that my quote was $700, prompted me to at least try fixing it. I mean, it's half broken, then making it completely broken won't matter as much.In addition to the $700 quote, the technician did note that my furnace was extremely old (it is) - and that fixing this one thing doesn't guarantee something won't break later. I admit - I think the furnace is older than I am...However, my technician was also telling me that it shouldn't be kicking on and off - this was before I found out it was an intermittent control. So there was no way I letting this guy near my oil furnace again. The main thing with my furnace is that it ran fine except when the temperature dropped below feezing. Then it would trip, I would get up, reset it, and anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour later, it would trip again. So I have many warm nights, but cold mornings around... 5/5 steviecool "steviecool" (VA, USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
