Installed in 2001 Grand am & works great!

This vehicle was intermittantly not starting with the ignition key and the security light would flash. Leaving the key in the ignition for 10 minutes with the igniton on would reset the security light and it would ~usually~ start. I ordered this part to hopefully fix the problem - and it did!Installation was pretty straight forward. Here is how I went about it - but you may find better instructions on youtube or other places on the internet. You're going to need an 8mm wrench (for battery connection), a small screwdriver or allen wrench(for igntion lock tab), trim pannel removal tools or a screwdriver etc for the trim pannels, a 7mm socket/rachet for the radio screws, and about 30 minutes of time to do this.Unhook battery. Remove plastic 'ring' around ignition switch. Remove radio/heater control trim pannel. Remove connectors to the TCS and the hazard switches at the top of the trim pannel. Place pannel out of the way. Purchased for 2004 Grand Am - works great

My Grand Am was having the problem with the ignition and passlock system that a lot of people have. It was obnoxious at first, but it actually progressed to the point that it was shorting the electrical system to a degree. It was getting undriveable. After some googling, it seems a lot of people have paid several hundred dollars to get this fixed with a mechanic. Kind of silly for something that's clearly a factory issue. So, I took a gamble here and decided to get it done myself.I was a little thrown off at first because the initial picture (since updated on the item itself) was of a Pontiac key and the one I received was a Chevrolet. I took off a star because I specifically purchased this key according to the fit and photo, and the current photo has carefully blurred the key too far to tell what brand it is (though it appears closest to Chevrolet). It doesn't affect the usability of the part at all, but it is kind of shady. I was a little nervous seeing this,... 4/5 Dantine - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: StratTec 597602 H72PT Blank Transponder Ignition Key with Ford Logo for selected Ford, Lincoln & Mercury Vehicles I bought 2 of these and had local locksmith cut and program since 2001 Ford Mustang GT I bought only came with 1 key and remote. This is the exact same key the locksmith uses and he stated other keys they don't have as good of luck with. It took less than 15 min and he charged me $35 total to cut and program both keys. Dealership wanted $150 to do the same. Both keys work exactly like the original one from the factory. Can't tell the difference. Now I have 2 spare keys with the chip in them so not only can I open the door if I get locked out, but I can drive the car with the spare keys. There are no security warnings on the dash lights using these replacement keys. 5 star rating. PS. They keys shipped very fast. I live in MI and had them in 4 days. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , April 4, 2014

This review is from: StratTec 597602 H72PT Blank Transponder Ignition Key with Ford Logo for selected Ford, Lincoln & Mercury Vehicles I nervously ordered 2 of these keys after a locksmith assured me he could cut and program them for $10 each. A week and very little trouble later, I now have 2 spare keys that will run my 98 Expedition. It took us 10 minutes. This after being given quotes from $70-$170 from other locksmiths after we lost our 2nd key (we only needed one key to program these). What a relief! Total of $25 each for backups! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , September 9, 2014

DIY after you get your locksmith to cut for $5

0 5/5 Jakester - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: 2 KeylessOption Replacement Uncut Ignition Chipped Key Transponder Blank Compatible with 80 Bit These little gems saved me about $180 at the end of the day. Highly recommend going this route instead of ripoff dealers and even locksmiths who want to take advantage of you because "it has a chip." The same locksmith who quoted me $60 to make a key for my vehicle (I wanted to give the local guy all my business if he were somewhat competitive) ended up cutting both of these blanks for $5. Dealer would have been closer to $200 for "factory" blanks, cut, and program. The internet is a powerful tool in situations like this. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , January 11, 2015

0 1/5 James Polek - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: 2 KeylessOption Replacement Uncut Ignition Chipped Key Transponder Blank - Red Seller does not clarify well enough that you must have the two original master keys from the manufacturer that came with the car in order to program these! If one of your keys is a copy or clone from a locksmith or other service it will not work in the procedure provided to program these new keys. Only the dealerships can reprogram the car in order to re-establish your "original" two keys to be recognized as masters. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 25, 2014

    Works great. No problems.

0 5/5 KCB - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: 2 KeylessOption Replacement Uncut Ignition Chipped Key Transponder Blank - Red I purchased 2 keys since we only had 1 key when we bought our car. According to the description I knew that I would need to get these keys programmed since I only had the 1 key. The local Ford dealer wanted to charge $120 to program. I went to ACE Hardware and they cut the keys for me for no charge since they weren't purchased from them. I called a local locksmith and their charge to program was only $45. They only had to program the one key and then he used my original key and the new key to program the 3rd key. He also programmed the remotes for no charge. I asked him what would the charge be for the key from them and it would have been $76 per key and $50 per remote (I paid $28.90 for the keys and remotes and then the $45 for the programming, less than the cost of 1 key from the locksmith or from ACE Hardware). 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , April 4, 2015

Great bang for the buck - my dealer wanted $200 for the same thing.

0 4/5 preachergeek (Jasper, TN United States) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: KeylessOption Replacement Key Remote Ignition Key Combo Keyless Entry - Dual Power Sliding Van Doors Exactly as described. Since I did not have two fobs, I took it to my locksmith who programmed it in about 5 minutes. The fob works great. Two MINOR issues or it would be 5 stars:1. The locksmith thought that the key stock on the blank key was not great quality. Since the cut key is only used if the battery dies on the fob it is no big deal.2. The fob inserts a little too snugly, more snugly than the original, in the ignition switch. Takes a little practice, but it works fine. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , September 8, 2014

Took it to Keen Dodge to get it programmed to the car and they screwed up cutting the pullout key and put the battery in backwards. We have a 2012 Town & Countryand bobought this because the price was so much better then the dealership price. We still had to have the dealership activate the key, and he made me nervous at first because he said there are a lot of scams with the fob keys for cars. However this one wasn't thankfully. Even they were impressed at the dealership with the fact we bought it online for the price we did and it worked.
