Have blanks cut at local hardware store, program the key yourself, and save money!

These worked great for my 2006 4Runner! The seller indicates that these must be cut and programmed by a locksmith or the dealer. However, let me save you some big bucks and tell you that you really just need to take these to a place that cuts keys (I took mine to the local hardware store) and have them cut them. Then follow these instructions to program the key. It took me about 3 times to get it to work, but it works! Oh, and good thing they come in pairs, since the guy who cut mine at the hardware store ruined one of them when the key slipped in the holder and the cut went wrong. (argh!) He didn't charge me for the cut of the other one and I really only needed one anyhow.so here are the instructions, which I found online at a forum board for Toyota owners:Programming a new transponder key for 2006 4Runner: (This should work for 2003-2006 4runners)Start with sitting in the driver's seat and all doors closed but unlocked.1)... 5/5 Jami (Peoria, AZ United States) - See all my reviews, January 11, 2015

5/5 gbiles (Va) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: 2 KeylessOption Replacement Uncut Ignition Chipped Key Transponder Blank Compatible with Dot Chip I bought a used 2006 sienna xle that only came with 1 key. Dealer wanted us to leave the car and was gonna cost a bundle (I think I recall $400+ and went dizzy). Anyhow, I saw some google and youtube "how-to's" for DIY, and was skeptical but thought why not try.I bought these 2 keys, and took them to Home Depot to get them cut. I was charged for 2 "new" keys which I didn't use, but I was fine with that. I followed the seemingly silly instructions (all doors closed, inserted/removed original key5 times and opened/closed drivers door 6 times and put new key in ignition until security light stopped blinking, then put original into ignition and started car, and then put new key into ignition and started car).. I was surprised it worked and very pleased. Both of these keys worked for me. Now I have one, and we have a spare. This should be a good test. A satisfied customer

For a 2002 Highlander these instructions for programming the transponder key do work but you have to go thru the procedure at the right speed. Too fast or too slow and the key will not program. Took me 5 attempts to get the right pace to make it work. There are a LOT of instructions out there for programming the keys and they are very definitely year and model specific. Make sure you are using a procedure for your car.1. Simultaneously depress and release brake and accelerator pedals 1 time.2. Insert an original Master Key into the ignition but do not turn it.3. Within 15 seconds depress and release accelerator pedal 5 times.4. Within 20 seconds depress and release the brake pedal 6 times and remove key.5. Within 10 seconds insert New Key into ignition but do not turn it.6. Within 10 seconds depress and release the accelerator pedal 1 time.7. Now sit and wait for about one minute until the security light in the center console stops... 4/5 Amazon Customer (Connecticut USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: 2 KeylessOption Replacement Uncut Ignition Chipped Key Transponder Blank Compatible with Dot Chip For a 2002 Highlander these instructions for programming the transponder key do work but you have to go thru the procedure at the right speed. Better than the dealer, but not quite as smooth as I had hoped.

For my 2006 PT Cruiser, these key blanks fit fine. A local locksmith was able to cut them for about $2 each. The programming instructions (on a website listed on the slip of paper that came with the keys) were very straightforward; unfortunately, I was not successful at programming them myself. There may have been multiple reasons-- for example, the two working keys I had were an original key and a later-cloned key, instead of two original keys. Fortunately, I found another locksmith who does programming for automotive keys and he took care of it quickly. Altogether, with the cost of the blanks, the cutting, and the programming, it came out to about $70 per key (I did a total of four of them). Better than the dealer, but a little more running around than I had hoped.I had bought this 2-pack as well as the ... 4/5 David Dailey - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This vehicle was intermittantly not starting with the ignition key and the security light would flash. Leaving the key in the ignition for 10 minutes with the igniton on would reset the security light and it would ~usually~ start. Purchased for 2004 Grand Am - works great

My Grand Am was having the problem with the ignition and passlock system that a lot of people have. It was obnoxious at first, but it actually progressed to the point that it was shorting the electrical system to a degree. It was getting undriveable. After some googling, it seems a lot of people have paid several hundred dollars to get this fixed with a mechanic. Kind of silly for something that's clearly a factory issue. So, I took a gamble here and decided to get it done myself.I was a little thrown off at first because the initial picture (since updated on the item itself) was of a Pontiac key and the one I received was a Chevrolet. I took off a star because I specifically purchased this key according to the fit and photo, and the current photo has carefully blurred the key too far to tell what brand it is (though it appears closest to Chevrolet). It doesn't affect the usability of the part at all, but it is kind of shady. I was a little nervous seeing this,... 4/5 Dantine - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?)
