About this book
Modern Diesel Technology: Diesel Engines is an ideal primer for the aspiring diesel technician, using simple, straightforward language and a building block approach to build a working knowledge of the modern computer-controlled diesel engine and its subsystems. The book includes dedicated chapters for each major subsystem, along with coverage devoted to dealing with fuel subsystems, and the basics of vehicle computer control systems. Fuel and engine management systems are discussed in generic terms to establish an understanding of typical engine systems, and there is an emphasis on fuel systems used in post-2007 diesel engines. Concluding with a chapter on diesel emissions and the means used to control them, this is a valuable resource designed to serve as a foundation for more advanced studies in diesel engine technology

A valuable tool for any garage

At the very least this is a nice deep funnel; the addded ability to remove junk from the fuel is certianly a plus. It is a bit larger than I thought it would be, so I may pick up the smaller one as well. The depth and straight high sides is nicer than the sloped sides of a regular funnel when pouring from a large can; you do not have the issue of it shooting out the other side from where you are pouring.I have read, here and other places, about concerns with the amont of fuel left in the 'sump' when you are finished. I can understand if you use it at a gas station and have no place to dump the sump, but if you use it often at home or work, and you are concerned because the cost of fuel has risen to obscene heights again, try this: pour the remains into a small fuel container dedicated for the leftovers. After it has built up enough pour THAT through the funnel. Some folks may not realize how much water may be in the gas they use. Now that alcohol is... 5/5 koboilila (massachusetts) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Start Your Engines! 21205 Fuel System Revitalizer - 4 Fl oz (Automotive) Product worked well, got a wood chipper that has not started without starting fluid for 3 years to start on the first pull, something it newer did since I've owned it.Also a weed wacker that had been in storage for 2 years. However on a snow blower that was in storage for 10 years, it worked too good. Something that was likely held together by gunk, began to leak.So for something that's been in storage for a real long time. Check first for hoses etc. that have physically deteriorated before using. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , October 19, 2009

    Okay, I am amazed...

I have a Craftsman Lawnmower with a 5.5HP Honda engine I bought in 2000. Living in FL and TX, this sucker has been used hard. Over the last 2 years this mower has been harder and harder to start. I changed the spark plug, the air filter and even took the carb out, blew it out with compressed air and soaked it in carb cleaner for 3 days. After all that, still 15-20 pulls to start. Over the past 3 months I resorted to spraying engine starter in the carb to get the darn thing going.I thought long and hard about a new mower, I mean heck this thing is 10 yrs old. Well, I saw the commercial for this on TV, so I thought, one last ditch effort to keep some hard earned money in my pocket and not buy a new mower.Well, I poured in 1/2 a bottle and added new gas. It started on the 3rd pull. I was AMAZED, but also thought, sure it will start now, but what about in a week?---Well today was one week later. I went out and pulled, and it started in the first... 5/5 RibsBrisket4me (Texas) - See all my reviews This review is from: Start Your Engines! 21205 Fuel System Revitalizer - 4 Fl oz (Automotive) I have a Craftsman Lawnmower with a 5.5HP Honda engine I bought in 2000. Outstanding Product

33 years ago I moved to 3 acres, and had a whole set of gas engines to look after (mower, string mower, chain saws, rototiller, etc). No matter what I tried, more than half of them had to go in once a year to clean and adjust the carburetor before they would run after winter storage. I complained so loudly to the shop that worked on them, that the owner introduced me to Sta-bil... and I called the company and ordered a case (couldn't find it in the stores then)... even talked with the inventor (a trained chemist).I use it by always adding a small amount (less than recommended) to every fuel can when it's filled, and a bit more to any gas tank that may remain unused for a while (like a mower in the winter). The only other thing I started doing religiously was to fill every gas tank through a filtered funnel (fine screen or felt). In the intervening 33 years, I've never had to rebuild another carburetor... and extraordinary result. Unlike most gas additives, this stuff works... 5/5 Dr. Allen K. I love it but a note of caution

I've used this for years and it really does work. I treat all my around the house gas (lawnmower, pressure washer, etc.) with it and my tools start on the first or second pull everytime. As another reviewer pointed out it also seems to somewhat revive / clean out gummed up and hard starting engines. It doesn't do this perfectly, but it does seem to have a slight effect.I use this all summer and run the engines dry before storing in the winter. Before putting away for the winter I also use fogging oil (another great product) before storage. These two simple steps have saved me from lots of expense and aggravation. Now for the note of caution: You need to carefully read the bottle and religiously follow the directions. Sta-bil keeps fuel fresh for awhile, but not forever. I believe--and I don't have the bottle right in front of me--that it will keep gas fresh for 3 or 4 months. So you can't fill up a 5 gallon can, add Sta-bil, and use that for several... 5/5 Matthew Dyer (South of the Mason-Dixon Line!) - See all my reviews, April 21, 2011

Useful Product, Great for Hassle-Free Storage of Vehicles

While I am not petroleum scientist, I have had the opportunity to start vehicles that had been in storage for several months with and with STA-BIL. I was easily able to tell the difference. I first started using STA-BIL when I moved to the East Coast, leaving my Ford Explorer behind. The vehicle was in good condition but had 150k miles on the odometer, making me somewhat concerned about starting the vehicle when I returned and/or attempted to sell it. I gave STAB-BIL a try and was very pleased with its performance. In fact, it seems to work longer than the 3-6 months the manufacturer suggests. For nearly two years, I had the vehicle parked in my parents' driveway, much to their chagrin. If I recall, I only put 1-2 bottles in the tank the entire time. I never had a problem starting the vehicle. Ultimately, I was able to sell the Explorer because I had no problems starting and running the vehicle during my brief trips back home.By contrast, a relative has a 1992 Mazda... 5/5 P. Saved me nearly $2K in repairs.

I recently bought a used 6.0L F-250. I didn't know it at the time, but that engine has a horrible reputation for being very costly to maintain and constantly having issues. I took the truck to the shop right after I bought it and was shocked to get a quote for $1900 in repairs. They said I had bad injectors (the truck's computer kept showing the bad injector code). I realized that there had to be something I could do besides getting 8 brand new injectors. Injectors either work, or they don't. There's no in-between. I did some research and found out the 6.0L engines suffer from something called "stiction". I settled on Hot Shot's Secret because the product was designed specifically with the 6.0L in mind. The combination of those two products got my truck running like new. I don't have any more cold start issues or low power issues. Another benefit is the engine just runs much smoother and more efficiently. Theres also a noticeable increase in power. I ran out of the fuel... 5/5 Johnny "Johnny" (Dayton, OH USA) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
