Energy Victory, Winning the War on Terror by Breaking Free of Oil

Creator: Robert Zubrin | Political Science - 2007

This is something we''ve really needed for some time. Washington should sit up and take notice.

Publisher: Prometheus Books

About this book
Americans are buying ammunition for their enemies every time they buy gas. Energy security is the way out of this dilemma and Dr. Zubrin has a plan to achieve it.- Clifford D. May, Syndicated Columnist; President, Foundation for the Defense of DemocraciesRobert Zubrin pulls no punches and moves effortlessly from a fascinating oil-centered take on WW II to making the mathematics of oil alternatives intelligible to lay readers. Oil and hydrogen take huge hits and alcohol fuels win big. Don''t miss this one.- James Woolsey, former Director, Central Intelligence AgencyTo win the war on terror, we need to remove the yoke of our oil dependence and cut the flow of petrodollars to regimes that spread radical Islam. Energy Victory is a bold, yet realistic plan to do just that. It is a vitally important book about the most critical issue we face today.- Dr. Gal Luft, Executive Director, Institute for the Analysis of Global SecurityIn Energy Victory, Zubrin supplies a forceful plan to finally break oil''s global stranglehold and seriously address world development. This is something we''ve really needed for some time. Washington should sit up and take notice.- James P. Clark, Chairman, World Technology NetworkIn this compelling argument for a new direction in US energy policy, world-renowned engineer and best-selling author Robert Zubrin lays out a bold plan for breaking the economic stranglehold that the OPEC oil cartel has on our country and the world. Zubrin presents persuasive evidence that our decades-long relationship with OPEC has resulted in the looting of our economy, the corruption of our political system, and now the funding and protection of terrorist regimes and movements that are committed to our destruction.Debunking the false solutions and myths that have deterred us from taking necessary action, Zubrin exposes the fakery that has allowed many politicians-including current US president George W. Bush-to posture that they are acting to resolve this problem while actually doing nothing significant toward that goal.Zubrin''s plan is straightforward and practical. He argues that if Congress passed a law requiring that all new cars sold in the USA be flex-fueled-that is, able to run on any combination of gasoline or alcohol fuels-this one action would destroy the monopoly that the oil cartel has maintained on the globe''s transportation fuel supply, opening it up to competition from alcohol fuels produced by farmers worldwide. According to Zubrin''s estimates, within three years of enactment, such a regulation would put 50 million cars on the road in the USA capable of running on high-alcohol fuels, and at least an equal number overseas. He further advocates tariff policies favoring alcohol over petroleum imports.Energy Victory shows how we could be using fuel dollars that are now being sent to countries with ties to terrorism to help farmers here and abroad, boosting our own economy and funding world development. Furthermore, by switching to alcohol fuels, which pollute less than gasoline and are made from plants that draw carbon dioxide from the air, this plan will facilitate the worldwide economic growth required to eliminate global poverty without the fear of greenhouse warming.Energy Victory offers an exciting vision for a dynamic, new energy policy, which will not only go a long way toward safeguarding homeland security in the future but will also provide solutions for global warming and Third World development.FURTHER PRAISE FOR ENERGY VICTORY:Energy Victory is the first book I have ever read that actually lays out a credible plan to turn around the world energy situation.... Energy Victory is a knock out. It should be read by everyone concerned with policy in this vital area, and its central recommendation implemented as rapidly as feasible.- Energy DailyAmericans are finally becoming aware that energy isn''t just an economic or environmental issue; it''s a grave national security issue. It''s long past time to stop bankrolling

5/5 Silver Streak - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Moeller 630013LP Portable Fuel Tank, 12 - Gallon, Red (Sports) Fit perfectly in the space for the gas tank on my just purchased used, 2001 Lowe 170 bass boat. It came with a 6 gal. tank and a 50 hp outboard, I run the Mississippi river and fish it extensively, 6 gal. was just not enough fuel, just a little over a hours run time. This doubled my time on the water, so double the pleasure, double the fun lol.I have not had any problems with the tank as others have had. Yes it does swell and expand when it gets hot because it contains all the fumes instead of releasing them as the old tanks did. I have one summer of use on the tank now with no problems at all. My tank does get exposure to the sun, but only partially as it is 90% under the lift open access cover at the back of my boat, so the heat on it is not as severe as a fully exposed tank would be.I am completely satisfied with this tank. State officials must be taking bribes to ok this as safe.

I don't really like the folks who type their reviews in all caps, but:RUN, DON'T WALK, FROM THIS PIECE OF JUNK !!!That felt good. Now, back to a calmer description: I cannot figure out how to get this to stop leaking fuel from the base of the hose fitting. Not the special connector the hose plugs into, but the black hose connector fitting that mounts in the red tank. The one in the middle of the picture showing the tank. If I put more than a half tank of fuel in the tank, the base of the fitting just oozes gas steadily from where it seats on the tank body. Like it's a candle wick. (Yes, it is tight!) This seems to occur independent of any lack of pressure build up in the tank. The only way to stop it seems to be leaving the tank filler cap ajar and not filling the tank to its rated capacity. The "pressure relief "valve" in the filler cap does nothing. Not if you pull it up, unscrew it or take it out and discard it. Somebody in the state regulating... 1/5 I_M_Pete (NO CA USA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Honest review from a boat manufacturer. Not a great tank, but few other options.

2/5 Jason Kuehn (Indianapolis IN) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Moeller A/D Portable Fuel Tank with Handle (Sports) Definitely not a good tank, but there aren't a lot of options on the market. Moeller dominates the market and a lack of competition means junky products. This reflects that. As many other reviews have stated, the fuel cap frequently leaks. This is a common problem. It is truly amazing that the EPA can regulate this "permeation" garbage which drives the cost up on tanks, primer bulbs, hose, etc. Yet consistently leaking caps which pour fuel out all over the place every time you try to carry the tank don't seem to be a problem. The issue varies from tank to tank, but on this particular one, the filler hole wasn't remotely round (totally flattened on one side) so the cap gasket doesn't seal. For what it's worth, my company is a boat manufacturer and I ordered this tank from Amazon because I needed faster than my marine distributor could get it to me. this was a nice tank straight out of the box until I discovered ...

1/5 g - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Moeller A/D Portable Fuel Tank with Handle (Sports) Well, this was a nice tank straight out of the box until I discovered that it's not a 6.5 gal tank but only a 6 gallon. Not a huge deal, but misleading. Second, I took the tank out and had problems straight away. The pressure release doesn't work and you have to manually release the pressure by removing the cap. Not much fun as you're trying to control a boat at the same time and wasn't able to keep the tank further than I could reach. Also in doing so, gas splashed out and around and on my hands. It was quite a mess. I set up a return but UPS advised they would not take the tank back to Amazon as it has had gasoline in it and considered hazardous. Amazon still graciously refunded my money. But, save yourself some trouble and buy a line insert and a water separator. Also, moreover, a different tank.
