    Tank Swelling fix

I just received 2 replacement tanks, 12 gal high profile. The low profile uses the same cap. On the bottom side of the cap, there is a little red bladder vent that I am assuming is the new regulation device for the vent standards. Once any pressure starts building in the tank it looks like it would probably fold over and completely block any vent at all. The material is like a thick balloon and by design looks like its in backwards. I simply cut the tip off and use the vent adjuster as I always have with the cap that it is shipped with. No need to purchase the $19.00 replacement cap that is advertised. With enough pressure build-up, I would believe it would split at the seam or leak through the fuel gauge as others have complained. Moeller has to follow guidelines via government idiots, so don't blame them. Its a good product. Once you purchase it, its yours to do as you like. My first concern is my family and anyone else onboard. A fuel leak or a possible tank exploding is what I... 5/5 Kevin - See all my reviews This review is from: Moeller A/D 12-Gallon Low Profile Portable Fuel Tank (Sports) I just received 2 replacement tanks, 12 gal high profile. Great tank

0 5/5 Jeff Hendrix - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Moeller A/D 12-Gallon Low Profile Portable Fuel Tank (Sports) Love the tank, hate the cap. Not sure what can be done to aleviate the pressure problems the new EPA regulated cap causes, but until I figure it out I just leave the cap loose. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , October 4, 2013

Nice Balloon, Lousy Gas Tank - Thanks EPA Bureaucrats

0 1/5 JT - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Moeller A/D 12-Gallon Low Profile Portable Fuel Tank (Sports) Thanks to the stupid bureaucrats at the EPA, this gas tank is not allowed to have a proper vent. Consequently it blows up alarmingly like a balloon on hot days. If you have it strapped down properly, the expansion will either break the tie-down straps or the anchors on your boat deck. The alternative is to leave the straps loose and hope the tank does not fall into the water. Look for other options. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , June 20, 2013

    Tank nice but cap leaks.

0 4/5 Rational (USA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Moeller A/D Portable Fuel Tank with Handle (Sports) I can find no fault with the tank itself. It is plenty thick and seems well made. The newer style ratcheting cap however, is another story. It simply begins to ratchet before it is tight enough. It therefore seeps fuel. I tried the old style cap from my previous tank (non-ratcheting) and it worked fine without leaking. On the plus side, I called Moeller and they are sending me a new cap. We'll see how it works.Update Oct 15:I talked Moeller into sending both an old style cap as well as a replacement style ratcheting cap. They both seem to work fine, with no leaks. I have bumped the rating for the tank assembly up to 4 stars for good customer service. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , October 3, 2012

    horrible...

0 1/5 PGpnw (Cutchogue, NY United States) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Moeller A/D Portable Fuel Tank with Handle (Sports) I used the fitting suggested for this tank. Filled the tank and gas started flowing out of the port where I put the johnson fitting. It's a terrible design and doesn't properly seal (the spot where you put the fitting in is in two pieces and it splits apart easily when you tighten your connector). Ten bucks in gas later, spill at the station, and now I have to find a disposal site. Don't buy this. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , July 30, 2013

    Major problems

0 1/5 Gary Felton (St.Thomas, VI USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Moeller A/D Portable Fuel Tank with Handle (Sports) Horrible fuel tank. Brand new out of the box the fuel gauge didn't work. This is my second tank. The first one the cap broke off. This new one leaks like a sieve. Even after going in a cleaning the sealing surfaces and re greasing the o-rings they use. Now I need to buy another tank because of getting gas/oil mixture in the bottom of my dinghy all the time. My whole boat is filthy with fuel. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , November 7, 2013

Save yourself a mess and drill a hole in the cap

0 2/5 Dean - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Attwood Corporation ASM with THD PU 3 Gallon Gas Tank (Sports) This ventless tank does a nice job of spilling gas out of the "outlet" if you don't have a fuel line hooked to it. If you do have a fuel line hooked to it, expect your motor to be flooded every time you go to start it. No need to have a bulb in your fuel line with this tank because rather than venting, it pushes fuel out the "outlet" and into your carb when you don't want it to.I thought this thing was designed to expand and collapse with changing temperatures but it doesn't do that. Instead it pushes fuel out, especially when it's hot outside. I drilled a small hole in the cap and the problem was fixed, although that goes against the whole EPA thing about venting fuel fumes. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , June 12, 2013

Great 3-gallon tank for less $$$

0 5/5 Sam Driver (Washington, VA United States) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Attwood Corporation ASM with THD PU 3 Gallon Gas Tank (Sports) I was real wary buying this tank without any reviews at all (prior to mine) but it appears to be a solidly built, quality product. I saw a number of 3-gallon marine fuel tanks on Amazon/eBay for a whole lot more than this one so I figured that I might be getting something of dubious quality but that does not appear to be the case. The plastic walls of the tank are pretty thick and the tank is EPA certified to prevent evaporative emissions from leaking out. The label on the tank says it was made in the USA (nice!) and was "designed, built, and certified to meet the requirements of EPA CFR 40 and California CCR 2468". Also says it is "warranted to be free of defects in material and workmanship for two (2) years". I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one but this one will last longer than the outboard motor it will be paired with. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , October 4, 2012

Great little tank for my 4hp.

0 4/5 Bustedmp - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Attwood Corporation ASM with THD PU 3 Gallon Gas Tank (Sports) I bought this to replace a rusted metal tank that leaked worse than a screen door on a submarine. I did read the other reviews here about the tank swelling from the lack of a vent. The tag on the neck of my tank stated that the tank was designed with the pressure and swelling in mind, and that it was designed to not allow fuel vapors to vent into the atmosphere as with the older vented tanks. It also states to loosen the cap 1 full turn for 10 seconds to release the pressure build up. Not sure about the fuel line fitting sticking up so high, but time will tell. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , May 25, 2013

    Not what is pictured!!!!

0 2/5 Timothy Cook - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Moeller Boating Topside Fuel Tank (18-Gallon) (Sports) The tank pictured is similar, but not the same as what. I received. The tank I received has the same dimensions and capacity, however it does not have the extra metal plate, nor the built in fuel gauge. The built in fuel gauge pictured is compatible with their conversion capsule for attaching a gauge, or can be removed to install their universal sender. However the tank I received didn't have this. The one I received had the gauge built into the actual fuel cap, and cannot be made to use with a remote gauge. Plus, my tank was obviously a returned item as it was severely scuffed and scratched up. Beware of this tank if you want þo use it with a remote gauge, as the picture is misleading!! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , May 3, 2014

Good tank but a vent at 90deg would make it better

0 3/5 hujambo - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Moeller Marine Below Deck Permanent Fuel Tank (35-Gallon, 69.5" x 16" x 8") (Sports) Looking through the Moeller range there is not a single tank with a vent barb that doesn't stick straight out the top of the tank, which seems a bit daft when in this case the inlet and outlet both come out at right angles. With the tank as it is you need at least 6" clearance above the tank for the vent pipe to not kink if it is being run under the deck using a separate 90 deg elbow with hose clamps. The positive side is that the vent barb is removable so in my case I had found a right-angle barb outlet that screwed in after calling Moeller and being told that you couldn't change it?? The other thing I wasn't so happy with is the fuel inlet is now one piece plastic, not aluminum as it shows on the photo and the photo's on the Moeller website. This (to me) can't be as strong and I was careful not to over-tighten the clamps. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , June 29, 2012
