Energy Victory, Winning the War on Terror by Breaking Free of Oil

Creator: Robert Zubrin | Political Science - 2007

This is something we''ve really needed for some time. Washington should sit up and take notice.

Publisher: Prometheus Books

About this book
Americans are buying ammunition for their enemies every time they buy gas. Energy security is the way out of this dilemma and Dr. Zubrin has a plan to achieve it.- Clifford D. May, Syndicated Columnist; President, Foundation for the Defense of DemocraciesRobert Zubrin pulls no punches and moves effortlessly from a fascinating oil-centered take on WW II to making the mathematics of oil alternatives intelligible to lay readers. Oil and hydrogen take huge hits and alcohol fuels win big. Don''t miss this one.- James Woolsey, former Director, Central Intelligence AgencyTo win the war on terror, we need to remove the yoke of our oil dependence and cut the flow of petrodollars to regimes that spread radical Islam. Energy Victory is a bold, yet realistic plan to do just that. It is a vitally important book about the most critical issue we face today.- Dr. Gal Luft, Executive Director, Institute for the Analysis of Global SecurityIn Energy Victory, Zubrin supplies a forceful plan to finally break oil''s global stranglehold and seriously address world development. This is something we''ve really needed for some time. Washington should sit up and take notice.- James P. Clark, Chairman, World Technology NetworkIn this compelling argument for a new direction in US energy policy, world-renowned engineer and best-selling author Robert Zubrin lays out a bold plan for breaking the economic stranglehold that the OPEC oil cartel has on our country and the world. Zubrin presents persuasive evidence that our decades-long relationship with OPEC has resulted in the looting of our economy, the corruption of our political system, and now the funding and protection of terrorist regimes and movements that are committed to our destruction.Debunking the false solutions and myths that have deterred us from taking necessary action, Zubrin exposes the fakery that has allowed many politicians-including current US president George W. Bush-to posture that they are acting to resolve this problem while actually doing nothing significant toward that goal.Zubrin''s plan is straightforward and practical. He argues that if Congress passed a law requiring that all new cars sold in the USA be flex-fueled-that is, able to run on any combination of gasoline or alcohol fuels-this one action would destroy the monopoly that the oil cartel has maintained on the globe''s transportation fuel supply, opening it up to competition from alcohol fuels produced by farmers worldwide. According to Zubrin''s estimates, within three years of enactment, such a regulation would put 50 million cars on the road in the USA capable of running on high-alcohol fuels, and at least an equal number overseas. He further advocates tariff policies favoring alcohol over petroleum imports.Energy Victory shows how we could be using fuel dollars that are now being sent to countries with ties to terrorism to help farmers here and abroad, boosting our own economy and funding world development. Furthermore, by switching to alcohol fuels, which pollute less than gasoline and are made from plants that draw carbon dioxide from the air, this plan will facilitate the worldwide economic growth required to eliminate global poverty without the fear of greenhouse warming.Energy Victory offers an exciting vision for a dynamic, new energy policy, which will not only go a long way toward safeguarding homeland security in the future but will also provide solutions for global warming and Third World development.FURTHER PRAISE FOR ENERGY VICTORY:Energy Victory is the first book I have ever read that actually lays out a credible plan to turn around the world energy situation.... Energy Victory is a knock out. It should be read by everyone concerned with policy in this vital area, and its central recommendation implemented as rapidly as feasible.- Energy DailyAmericans are finally becoming aware that energy isn''t just an economic or environmental issue; it''s a grave national security issue. It''s long past time to stop bankrolling

    Defective Item, Split at Seam

1/5 Bill B. (Whitney TX) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Moeller A/D 12-Gallon High Profile Portable Fuel Tank (Sports) Item split at seam, leaking out over 6 gallons of fuel onto boat and into water, after first use. Could not handle pressure of Texas heat.Addendum: Amazon quickly refunded my money on this (Thank you, Amazon!). I purchased the much more expensive 15 gallon topside permanent mount tank from the same manufacturer -- the plastic is much heavier and there are no seams. Bought 4. 2 leaked from top gauge. Do not buy this product

1/5 Lisa Hochhauser (PARAMUS, nj, US) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Moeller A/D 12-Gallon High Profile Portable Fuel Tank (Sports) I purchased these items during the aftermath of hurricane sandy because we were running a generator and were dealing with gas shortages. The tanks had easy to read instructions with clearly identified fill lines. I followed these to the letter. Two of the tanks still leaked from the gaskets around the gauges and if possible I believe from the seals. Note they were not filled above the level but with movement and pressure the gas managed to come out signifiantly and I now have an SUV with gas smell I am unable to get out. I would return them if I could figure out how to ship something that had gas in it. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 12, 2012

    Nice tank, long shipping time

3/5 JDFan - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Moeller A/D 12-Gallon High Profile Portable Fuel Tank (Sports) Shipping took 9 days. The quality of the tank is excellent, but by the time it arrived I had to purchase and install another brand (Attwood) for my trip. This Moeller tank has a cap with a funky vent lock that requires you to push a tab under the cap and turn to open partially, then you can open it all the way. That's a pain, but apparently it allows you to vent the tank before opening. There is also a manual screw vent on the top of the cap. No biggie, but I also noticed the gauge is not very accurate. It is pegged empty with almost 5 gallons left, and reads half with 8 gallons. It is a 12 gallon tank. Tank nice but cap leaks.

4/5 Rational (USA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Moeller A/D Portable Fuel Tank with Handle (Sports) I can find no fault with the tank itself. It is plenty thick and seems well made. The newer style ratcheting cap however, is another story. It simply begins to ratchet before it is tight enough. It therefore seeps fuel. I tried the old style cap from my previous tank (non-ratcheting) and it worked fine without leaking. On the plus side, I called Moeller and they are sending me a new cap. We'll see how it works.Update Oct 15:I talked Moeller into sending both an old style cap as well as a replacement style ratcheting cap. They both seem to work fine, with no leaks. I have bumped the rating for the tank assembly up to 4 stars for good customer service. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , October 3, 2012

State officials must be taking bribes to ok this as safe.

I don't really like the folks who type their reviews in all caps, but:RUN, DON'T WALK, FROM THIS PIECE OF JUNK !!!That felt good. Now, back to a calmer description: I cannot figure out how to get this to stop leaking fuel from the base of the hose fitting. Not the special connector the hose plugs into, but the black hose connector fitting that mounts in the red tank. The one in the middle of the picture showing the tank. If I put more than a half tank of fuel in the tank, the base of the fitting just oozes gas steadily from where it seats on the tank body. Like it's a candle wick. (Yes, it is tight!) This seems to occur independent of any lack of pressure build up in the tank. The only way to stop it seems to be leaving the tank filler cap ajar and not filling the tank to its rated capacity. The "pressure relief "valve" in the filler cap does nothing. Not if you pull it up, unscrew it or take it out and discard it. Somebody in the state regulating... 1/5 I_M_Pete (NO CA USA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Major problems

1/5 Gary Felton (St.Thomas, VI USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Moeller A/D Portable Fuel Tank with Handle (Sports) Horrible fuel tank. Brand new out of the box the fuel gauge didn't work. This is my second tank. The first one the cap broke off. This new one leaks like a sieve. Even after going in a cleaning the sealing surfaces and re greasing the o-rings they use. Now I need to buy another tank because of getting gas/oil mixture in the bottom of my dinghy all the time. My whole boat is filthy with fuel. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , November 7, 2013

    Impressed with this tank!

I purchased this 19 Gallon Moeller Marine Below Deck Tank to replace a 30 year old aluminum tank in a 1979 Century Model 200 (19 foot runabout with Mercruiser 228 I/O)The original tank was filled with bad gas. Even after pumping it out it was still having issues... most likely because the layers of deposits on the inside of the tank being eaten off by ethanol in today's gasoline.I always used Sta-Bil products in the gas but that didn't seem to help. The inside of my carburetor always ended up with gel like deposits no matter how many times I cleaned it, or changed the fuel filters (I have a water separating fuel filter as well). When I cleaned and rebuilt the carb (Edelbrock 1409 marine 600cfm carb), Pumped the old gas out of the new fuel pump (only 5 hours on it max), changed the fuel filter... and ran the boat from an external 5 gallon gas jug... it ran like a top, and had no issues at all... so I knew something was up with the old tank, and it had... 5/5 Gavin L (NY) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Moeller Marine Below Deck Permanent Fuel Tank (19-Gallon, 26" x 16" x 11.75") (Sports) What I didn't like, is the dimensions of the product I received where not as described, I still tried to make it work. Ultimately, I'm screwed since I'm military and was out of town when it arrived and it sat in the living room for almost 3 months until I right this review so now I believe I'm unable to return it.As for quality, it seems like a well made product, the float and everything was installed, it was packaged very well. If this would of fit in my installation or if I'm able to return it, I'll upgrade my stars on it. Hopefully the company will let me return it since I couldn't get it to squeeze in. the rapid cooling causes the rain to be sucked in around the fuel gauge installation area

1/5 Doitmyself (Iowa) - See all my reviews This review is from: Attwood 8806LP2 Portable Fuel Tank - 6 Gallon Capacity (Automotive) Do not buy this tank!!! Don't buy this tank if it will be exposed to sun and rain. As it is a sealed tank, the heat from the sun causes it to inflate and if it is rained on, the rapid cooling causes the rain to be sucked in around the fuel gauge installation area.I learned the hard way after being towed back to the dock twice.Just enough uncontaminated fuel in the carb and line to get you about one half mile out. Wal-mart has same tank without fuel gauge for $15.00 more. Go figure. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , August 3, 2015
