How to Rebuild Small-Block Ford Engines

I found How to Rebuild Small-Block Ford Engines to be a very informative book. This book goes over almost everything envolved in rebuilding all Ford small-block V-8 engines from the 221 to the 351W, including parts that interchange with other small-block Fords and tuning up your freshly rebuilt engine. Soon, I will begin to rebuild the engine in my '89 Mustang. The 302 small-block under the hood has definitely seen better days. It is down on power and it smokes. Now that I have read this book I have a much clearer understanding of what makes my engine do this and now I know how to fix it. This book answered many questions I have been trying to answer since I first became interested in motors, such as, what parts should I buy for the rebuild?, what tools do I need to install them?, what machine processes should I have done?, and most importantly, do I even need a rebuild? This book does a great job of explaning a rebuild but I was kind of bummed that it didn't have... 4/5 Adam Portman (Louisville, Ky) - See all my reviews This review is from: How to Rebuild Small-Block Ford Engines (Paperback) I found How to Rebuild Small-Block Ford Engines to be a very informative book. 10 lb capacity Engine Dolly

0 1/5 Rich - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: 1000lb Capacity Engine Cradle Dolly for Ford Recieved the engine stand in good condition. While assembling.. my 15 year old son asked.. "How are these little bolts going to be strong enough to support the engine that is in our car?" I said -- I don't know? Maybe the cross brace just keeps the dolly parallel and all the weight is pushed downward...? Well... my son was right....our 650lb engine crushed the dolly. It actually didn't even fit our engine correctly. Tried it forward - backwards - sideways.. in no way did the bolt holes line up perfectly. This product is a waste of time and money. It is not 1000 lb capacity, it does not fit our Ford.. Maybe I can weld it up and use it as a little table with casters????? Not worth spending the money on it to even return it. A word to the wise... if you need an Engine Dolly.. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS ONE! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , September 6, 2011

    Decent Engine Cradle!!

So I purchased this engine cradle from this seller, knowing that I might have to modify it to fit my small block Ford. Item arrived in great condition, after inspecting the hardware, I deceided to put a more heavy duty set of bolts on the cross bar, because of reading from other customers that after they put the engine on the cradle it fails at that weak point. Having put heavier duty bolts on the cross bar I assembled the cradle. I went to put the engine and the mounts didn't line up. So my solution was to disassemble the cradle and hold the engine in the air on a hoist while I put the cradle on piece by piece left then right finally the cross bar, I still fought with it to fit but i didnt have to drill anything Its just a very tight fit. I would recommend this only if you're handy and don't mind upgrading the bolts and spending 30 min. wrestling with it to fit after that it held the weight of my entire engine without a problem oil pan to intake. A good buy for a price that can't... 4/5 Ricardo Sanchez - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) FAIL

0 1/5 C.D. Walker (Kirkwood, MO United States) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: 1000lb Capacity Engine Cradle Dolly for Ford Disappointment. Bolt holes did not line up for our Ford motor. This is necessary for the cradle/dolly to stay together. So instead it just collapses & breaks. I'm going to have to find a better one. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , August 27, 2011

0 3/5 Dr-K "Dr -K" (Palm Harbor, FL) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: How to Rebuild the Small-Block Ford (S-A Design) (Paperback) this book is informative and useful to someone that has limited experience rebuilding engines. It provides usefule information on tear down and rebuild.Caution: it is almost word for word, picture for picture identical to George Reid's "How to Rebuild 4.6-/5.4-Liter Ford Engines (S-a Design, Workbench Series)". Purchase one or the other, but not both as I unfortunately did. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , November 4, 2009

    Not nearly enough information

0 3/5 TM Warren (AZ) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: How to Rebuild the Small-Block Ford (S-A Design) (Paperback) I've built engines before, but never a Ford, so I bought this hoping for more Ford-specific information. Unfortunately, it spent too much time talking about the machine-shop stage and none on pre-assembly. Furthermore, there were only a handful of torque specs, and no note of the firing order for different engines. I spent more time looking things up on the Internet than referencing this book. It served as a high-level guide to the general assembly process, but it's a poor how-to for the DIYer. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , February 21, 2011

    MSD Lookalike

It looks like a MSD distributor with the wire retainer on top. The magnetic pickup is the same type as used on MSD,Mallory, and Ford distributors so it's easy to swap and or replace ,the billet looks real nice and the gear is steel so it should work with ford hyd roller cams. It doesn't have any advance adjustment but the advance curve seems to be ok and I will have to figure out myself how much total advance it has since no specs are listed and time will tell if it keeps working without any problems , one more thing ...the distributor wiring instruction sheet has the wrong colors and it's actualy a MSD diagram, the actual pickup wire color codes are backwards from MSD/Mallory color codes , I hooked them up acording to MSD/Mallory replacment magnetic pickup color code cross reference chart and when I did the timing read 30 degrees too much advance so I reversed the wires and the timing read perfect . For $40 it looks and works great and its a great deal ....as long... 4/5 Robert Cates - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?)
