About this book
GM's muscle cars of the '60s and '70s were great for their time - but what they did best was go in a straight line. Today's performance cars have it all though - speed, handling, and comfort. This book shows you how to build a Pro-Touring machine: a classic muscle car that accelerates, stops, corners, and rides like Detroit's best new high-performance cars. Author Tony E. Huntimer goes through a car's major systems - drivetrain, chassis, suspension, body, and interior - and shows you how to upgrade that classic muscle car to make it a modern performer. Electronic fuel injection, 6-speed trannies, better shocks and springs, modern seating and instruments, and subtle body mods are all covered, along with step-by-step how-to sequences on many key modifications. Classic muscle car looks, with modern muscle car performance - that's what Pro-Touring is all about!

About this book
Chevy's W-series 348 and later the 409 became legends on the street, and in particular the 409 also became a legend on the track. In the early 1960s, these engines powered a variety of GM vehicles and the Z11 Impalas at the drag strip. While these engines enjoyed a hay day in the early 1960s and pop culture status in the hot rod community, especially with the Beach Boys and their hit song "409," higher horsepower Mark IV Chevy big-block engines overshadowed these W-engines by the late 1960s. But recently, the 348s and 409s have enjoyed a high-performance renaissance and many speed manufacturers are making heads, blocks, and virtually every part for these engines. Veteran magazine writer and author John Carollo provides insightful instruction for rebuilding a stock engine and also how to build a sound performance W-engine as well. The reader is shown how to select a strong clean block, free of core shift and fatal cracks, select the best heads for a particular build, and increase the compression ratio. Selecting a camshaft and a strong connecting rod and piston combination is also an important aspect of the engine build, and all options are examined. Guidance in this book will allow you to select the right cam for a high-performance aftermarket package and a cam that won't over power a stock engine's valve train. In addition, building a large displacement stock engine of 427 inches or aftermarket block to go to 509 inches is covered. From mild to wild, from stock to modified, the book covers everything you need to know about the legendary 348-409 engines.

About this book
Any professional performance engine builder will likely tell you the most powerful and important component in an engine are cylinder heads. If you can afford to invest serious money in one component for a street engine, in most cases it should be a set of cylinder heads. While the small-block Chevy engine has been well-chronicled, specific in-depth information on this important component has been more elusive. This book shows you how to choose the best cylinder head for your application. It covers both Gen I and Gen II small-block Chevy versions, occasionally touching on the Gen III and Gen IV production versions. This book taps into some of the best small-block Chevy cylinder head resources this country has to offer with a combination of insight and best estimates, because much of what we know about port design and airflow management falls under the category of art rather than science.  High-Performance Chevy Small-Block Cylinder Heads is designed exactly like its predecessor, High-Performance Chevy Small-Block Cams & Valvetrains, in that it starts with the basics and works into more in-depth concepts and variables in an attempt to uncover all those subtle nuances that make up the small-block Chevy. It features airflow basics, extensive flow bench tests (using the Superflow 600 bench), information on production and aftermarket heads, rebuilding and assembly, and basic porting techniques.
