1960s Glamour

Creator: Ian Penberthy | Photography - 2010-11-01

The bevy of beauties that graces the pages of these four books illustrates the changing faces - and bodies - of the glamour model over four decades, from the demure to the titillating, the seductive to the steamy, the erotic to the raunchy.

Publisher: Ammonite Press

About this book
A series of four picture books, compiled from the archives of the classic girlie magazines, Fiesta and Knave, which celebrates an age when glamour photography strove more for artistic ideals and risqué titillation than the sexually explicit top shelf titles of today. Statuesque models of the 1950s adopted the poses of Greek goddesses, in elaborately styled sets, while their equivalents from the Swinging Sixties displayed a more playful, almost naive innocence. A decade later, the pin-ups of the 1970s, invariably shot in luscious colour and sumptuous sets, offered a more seductive appeal, while the glamour girls of the 1980s became more sexually suggestive in their poses and attire - or lack of it. The bevy of beauties that graces the pages of these four books illustrates the changing faces - and bodies - of the glamour model over four decades, from the demure to the titillating, the seductive to the steamy, the erotic to the raunchy.

Meeting Miss Irby

Creator: Joshua Irby | Biography & Autobiography - 2012-04-01

In 1855, a wealthy 24-year-old English woman, Adeline Paulina Irby, left her London home to search for her purpose in life.

About this book
In 1855, a wealthy 24-year-old English woman, Adeline Paulina Irby, left her London home to search for her purpose in life. By a strange turn of events, she ended up in Sarajevo where she stayed and became a national hero. In 1999, an average 22-year-old man left his home in the United States to live in the Balkans for a year. There-in the most unlikely city on the other side of the world-he not only found another Irby, but also a purpose for his life. This creative memoir reveals that extraordinary things happen when ordinary people search for meaning and, instead, discover love.
