Creator: Robert H. Schleicher | 2006-11-15

In this volume for veteran and newbie R/C enthusiasts alike, ace hobby writer Robert Schleicher offers a fully illustrated guide to both electric and fuel remote-control vehicles.

Publisher: Voyageur Press

About this book
When it comes to scale-size motorsport thrills, few hobbies can match the untethered thrills of R/C cars. Whether screaming across the asphalt or bounding over a dirt course, R/C cars offer enthusiasts an ever-increasing level of power, detail, and sophistication. In this volume for veteran and newbie R/C enthusiasts alike, ace hobby writer Robert Schleicher offers a fully illustrated guide to both electric and fuel remote-control vehicles. From selecting the right scale and tending to the power source to tuning the chassis and choosing gear ratios and tires, Schleicher covers all the angles that go into R/C driving. He also considers nitro power, painting and decals, off-road driving techniques, setting up road-race courses in parking lots, and even building off-road courses. Appendices include a glossary and information on clubs, publications, and suppliers.

0 5/5 matt - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: 1/8Th Mad Torque Rock Crawler Ready to Run (Orange) (Toy) i have been wanting to get into the hobby grade RC world for a long time but couldn't really afford to. i found this crawler for under 200 dollars and taught id give it a shot. i was really surprised with the quality of this product. its constructed of mostly aluminum and has held up really well. another great thing is that there are so many upgrade/replacement parts available that when something does eventually wear out i will have no problem replacing it. another thing i want to mention is that all the electronics came fully waterproofed right out of the box! so in conclusion i love this crawler. i have had so much fun with it and would highly recommend it to anyone that is on a budget and still wants a quality RC!!! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , March 24, 2014

Good starting point for crawler platform

First impression out of the box, This truck is a monster!First impression wile driving, This truck turns like a bus.The first run I made was decent, but with the stock shock position, I found myself high centering in places it really shouldn't have. This is mostly due to the length of this crawler, and the stock location being at its lowest setting. After the first run, I raised the shocks to the highest position, and gained near 2 inches of clearance. Then moved the top of the shock towers to the outside of the frame, because it seemed they binded a little being mounted on the inside as they come stock. I also installed a rear steer kit, that I unfortunately had to order from another site. I also removed the stock radio and installed it to a 6 chan stick radio, to gain independent control over the front and rear steering, as well as a few other nifty things the radio does. The second run was at nite. The built in light system is good,... 4/5 wayne jarboe - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Did not work right from the start. Charged it up and gave it it's firts run. The thing has a motor in the middle that causes the truck to twist when you throttle it. This causes the wheels to grind on the fender. DONT BUY!! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , October 18, 2013

Good start but quickly needs upgrades

It's a good vehicle for the price but plan on some upgrades if you keep it long term. If it starts losing power in reverse, don't replace the speed control, replace the radio. If you are handy with basic tools, do not pay for the overpriced Exceed upgrades when you can buy the Losi Mini Rock Crawler upgrades for far less. Servo mounts are exactly the same, steering knuckles are exactly the same. The C-hubs are different because in the MRC (Mini Rock Crawler), they capture the bearing instead of in the axle with the EMS (Exceed Max Stone) but a few minutes with a flat file and they fit fine. The bodies are interchangeable, requiring only new holes or a reposition of the body posts. The MRC tires and wheels are also a direct swap and provide far better traction, just remember to weight them. MRC front CVD's will fit, again with a minor bit of filing. Center CVD's will fit with a 5mm ream to accommodate the EMS' larger output shafts. Bent links from the MRC are just a bit... 4/5 Ronald J. This review is from: 1/16th Scale 2.4Ghz Exceed RC MaxStone 4WD Powerful Electric Remote Control Rock Crawler 100% RTR (Toy) read all the reviews.....worth every penny.its too slow and lacks low end throttle control, lets face it....its not a comp crawler.its something to see if your really interested in crawling before you go out and buy a $400 plus crawler.I bought it specifically for the axel size.they fit perfect under my 1/12 scale chevy s10.ive been running it pretty regular....stock drivetrain, electronics are holding up nice.i did drop down to a smaller tire size....which increased battery run time to 12 min.stock form your looking at about 7 mins.im very happy and will by another. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , October 21, 2013

Nice truck for a young newbie

This 1/16th scale truck is a perfect sized RC for a new-comer to the sport. By design it is meant to be slow, but powerful. IT will crawl over so many things and if driven well, it'll amaze even a veteran RCer.Having said that, there are some quality control issues to mention that brings down the rating of this truck.First, the screws are made of a very soft material and a perfectly sized screw driver or allen wrench MUST be used, otherwise stripping occurs in the head of the screw.Secondly, I had an issue with the motor that required pulling it apart and upon inspection I found scorching and evidence of a used motor. After cleaning up with emery paper and an eraser, lubing the bushing and putting together it worked just fine. (Please note - This motor is not made to be repairable, but I have experience in this area.)Third, the truck was to be equipped with a servo saver, it shows this in the parts diagrams included with the truck but mine was not. and the truck bed is molded like tube rails and looks cool

Before buying, I had already made up my mind that I would replace the body because it looked cheesy in these pictures, and I wasn't a fan of the plain red coloring. Having received it, my opinion has completely changed. The body is actually more of a copper metal flake, and the truck bed is molded like tube rails and looks cool. This was just a big surprise and I wanted to note it for future customers - the body is actually pretty cool. The articulation is amazing. The front axle can tilt about 45 degrees one way, the middle axle 45 the other, and the rearmost axle 45 degrees again the opposite. The middle and rearmost axles are not dependent on each other in the suspension. The suspension has a fair amount of adjustment available for ride height and shock position. The tires appear to mount onto more like an 1/8 scale buggy hub, though this is a hub that mounts on a steel core axle, passing through a steering hub that I have heard from other MadTorque (4x4) owners... 5/5 Schlauncha - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?)
