In this volume for veteran and newbie R/C enthusiasts alike, ace hobby writer Robert Schleicher offers a fully illustrated guide to both electric and fuel remote-control vehicles. From selecting the right scale and tending to the power source to tuning the chassis and choosing gear ratios and tires, Schleicher covers all the angles that go into R/C driving. He also considers nitro power, painting and decals, off-road driving techniques, setting up road-race courses in parking lots, and even building off-road courses. Appendices include a glossary and information on clubs, publications, and suppliers.

0 5/5 matt - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: 1/8Th Mad Torque Rock Crawler Ready to Run (Orange) (Toy) i have been wanting to get into the hobby grade RC world for a long time but couldn't really afford to. i found this crawler for under 200 dollars and taught id give it a shot. i was really surprised with the quality of this product. its constructed of mostly aluminum and has held up really well. another great thing is that there are so many upgrade/replacement parts available that when something does eventually wear out i will have no problem replacing it. another thing i want to mention is that all the electronics came fully waterproofed right out of the box! so in conclusion i love this crawler. i have had so much fun with it and would highly recommend it to anyone that is on a budget and still wants a quality RC!!! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , March 24, 2014

Good start but quickly needs upgrades

It's a good vehicle for the price but plan on some upgrades if you keep it long term. If it starts losing power in reverse, don't replace the speed control, replace the radio. If you are handy with basic tools, do not pay for the overpriced Exceed upgrades when you can buy the Losi Mini Rock Crawler upgrades for far less. Servo mounts are exactly the same, steering knuckles are exactly the same. The C-hubs are different because in the MRC (Mini Rock Crawler), they capture the bearing instead of in the axle with the EMS (Exceed Max Stone) but a few minutes with a flat file and they fit fine. The bodies are interchangeable, requiring only new holes or a reposition of the body posts. The MRC tires and wheels are also a direct swap and provide far better traction, just remember to weight them. MRC front CVD's will fit, again with a minor bit of filing. Center CVD's will fit with a 5mm ream to accommodate the EMS' larger output shafts. Bent links from the MRC are just a bit... 4/5 Ronald J. Nice truck for a young newbie

This 1/16th scale truck is a perfect sized RC for a new-comer to the sport. By design it is meant to be slow, but powerful. IT will crawl over so many things and if driven well, it'll amaze even a veteran RCer.Having said that, there are some quality control issues to mention that brings down the rating of this truck.First, the screws are made of a very soft material and a perfectly sized screw driver or allen wrench MUST be used, otherwise stripping occurs in the head of the screw.Secondly, I had an issue with the motor that required pulling it apart and upon inspection I found scorching and evidence of a used motor. After cleaning up with emery paper and an eraser, lubing the bushing and putting together it worked just fine. (Please note - This motor is not made to be repairable, but I have experience in this area.)Third, the truck was to be equipped with a servo saver, it shows this in the parts diagrams included with the truck but mine was not. 0 3/5 Joey Puckett (SARDIS, TENNESSEE, US) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Axial AX 90031 Wraith Jeep RTR Wrangler (Toy) I picked one of these up as a late Christmas present to myself. I didn't run the wraith through one whole battery pack (about 30 minutes) before I stripped the spur gear on the trans. I was expecting some failures and had bought some spare parts, but this wasn't one of them.I'd reccomend getting some spare spur gears and transition gears right off the bat since they're cheap, and a good set of Allen head drivers for working with the tiny screws the wraith is assembled with.It will be an awesome time waster once I have enough heavy duty parts on it that I can wheel it without tearing it up but I believe this will be a $1,000 toy in short order. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , January 17, 2014

Great vehicle but the body is difficult to work and instructions are inaccurate

This is my second Axial vehicle and in general I really like the scx10!However, the disadvantage that I found with this kit is that the body can be difficult to work with, especially getting the hard top to match up to the windshield, where I discovered some inaccuracies in the manual. When assembling mine, I followed the instructions and ended up with a gap between the windshield and the hard top. To see what I mean, look at page 41 (step 61) of the instruction manual. It clearly shows the front of the hard top trimmed down, without leaving a tab or "overhang" to be tucked under the windshield. Assembling the body in this way (according to the instructions) will leave you with a gap between the windshield and the hard top. However, there is an excellent blog on Axial's website with detailed tricks and tips on how to assemble the body. Google this and you will find it "Body Tech - 2012 Jeep® Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon Kit". Now, if you look at the pictures in that blog, it... 3/5 Jason J. It has performed well everywhere I have taken it. Nothing has broken and I expect it to last for a long time. I highly recommend this truck to anyone who wants to get started in scale rock crawling. One small drawback is that the tires have holes in them to let air pass through which is good except that water can get in the tires and ruin the foam and cause flat areas on the tires. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , March 5, 2012

Axial Trail Honcho Fantastic Stock Out of the Box!

Axial makes three RTR (ready to run) vehicles, the Wraith, the Honcho and the Ridgecrest. First let me define RTR. RTR means that if you put batteries in the controller and a charged battery in the vehicle, it will run. It DOES NOT mean that everything you need to operate the vehicle is included in the box. With the Axial RTR vehicles the package does not include the AA batteries for the controller, the NIMH or Lipo battery for the vehicle or a charger to charge the NIMH or Lipo battery. Always check to see what comes in the box. Besides RTR vehicles, there are kits in which you have to build the vehicle. Usually kits do not include the electronics. Axial makes the Dingo and the XR10 as kits. The Honcho is almost perfect out of the box without upgrades or modifications. Sure you can upgrade and improve the Honcho. It has no glaring deficiencies in stock form. The Honcho is a "scaler." That means it is fairly realistic, or scale looking. To look realistic, some... 5/5 Louis - See all my reviews This review is from: Axial Racing 90022 Axial 1/10 SCX10 Trail Honch Electric 4WD RTR (Toy) Axial makes three RTR (ready to run) vehicles, the Wraith, the Honcho and the Ridgecrest. This Is an Amazing Little Truck...

Let me start by saying I'm a seasoned RC hobbyist. I've had over 50 different vehicles over the last several years, ranging from $90 RTR trucks to vehicles that cost me hundreds and hundreds of dollars. I just mention this to give a bit of background of my experience with RC things. The Trail Trekker had been on my Wish List here on Amazon for a long time. I had wanted one to do some indoor RC driving while making trails and rock courses out of various household objects, with an end goal of making a course that was on a large table that would be somewhat permanent with bridges, tunnels, the works. The thing was, I had never actually bought the truck. I was worried that I wouldn't use it...that it would be too small...that I wouldn't end up getting any value out of it.Fast forward to the cold winter months here in Michigan. Temperatures hanging around 10 for weeks at a time had put an end to any outdoor RC fun. I had finished remodeling a room in... 4/5 J. J. Burtch "In Life, Try to be the Type of ... It's extremely agile, has amazing suspension, and the stock motors were able to handle the added weight of my custom made scale body. It's really unbelievably small, making it perfect for indoor adventures, but it's plenty capable of driving over piles of small rocks too. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , January 28, 2013
