    Pretty, pretty good

5/5 Zuby - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Bell PITCREW Bike Cable Change Kit (Sports) Pretty good deal. Seriously. $8 for a brand new set of cables, housing, and even a few ferrules and cable tips. That's a LOT of cable for about $9. Check, now its $5.50 at Amazon. Damn good deal! The shift housings are coiled, not compressionless. If you have index shifter (shifters that are numbered), then you might want to look for compressionless shifter cables. If you have friction shifters (levers), you'll be fine. Still, the brake cables are universal, so you are fine in that respect.Just a tip (got from a friend): when you cut the cable, the ends can fray. If you do not have a bicycle cable cutter, what you can do is wrap a small amount (maybe 2-3 turns) of electrical tape around the point you will cut, and then cut the cable with a regular cable cutter, sort of snipping then turning then snipping again. I got a REALLY cut with this tip. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , June 16, 2011

    Hard to beat

5/5 Plumbob - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Bell PITCREW Bike Cable Change Kit (Sports) Great for fixing up the 30 year old Schwinn/Huffy/Ross/Murray that's been gathering dust.Still a pretty good deal for the newer (post 1985) indexed shifting bikes. In these bikes the brake cables will work fine, but the shift cables might be fussy. (Technical explanation : both the brake and gear cable housings in this set are tight spiral wound. Modern gear cable housing is loose spiral wound (100 mm period ), often called compression-less or constant-length. Some gear shifters will behave erratically with the Bell cable housing. Solution: buy a roll of Shimano SIS shift housing cable ... you can still use the Bell cables.)I've had no problems with Shimano indexed systems including Ultegra 10 , Dura Ace 9, and Deore XT. Works pretty well

These cables and housings aren't perfect, but they work pretty darn well. I replaced the all the cables on one bike, the rear brake and rear derailleur cables on another, and the front derailleur cable on yet another using these cables. So far, so good. The brakes are working better than ever. The housing condenses just a tad when the cable is being pulled, so my rear derailleur skips 1st gear, but I'm fine with that. All the other gears work, why do I need first? The front derailleur cable I replaced on a friend's bike seems to be working fine too. A word of advice: lube the inside of these cable housings. if you don't there's a bit more friction than one is ok with in a bike cable. I just drip some motor oil in there before I run the wires through them and it works like a charm. Put them on over a month ago and everything is still working as smooth as ever! :D I used these to fix two Giant boulder mountain bikes, and one Schwinn Mesa. All three had rapid fire / click-style gear... 5/5 Sean89us - See all my reviews This review is from: Bell PITCREW Bike Cable Change Kit (Sports) These cables and housings aren't perfect, but they work pretty darn well. Surprisingly awesome, simple bike for little money

I haven't ridden a bike in several years, and before that I've only owned mountain bikes. I decided that I wanted to try commuting to work via bike, so I began my search for an appropriate bike. The bike had to cost less than $200, since, if I'm being honest, I might have bailed on the commuting plan after the first ride. I needed a low barrier for entry, and little invested. The bike also had to be simple. I don't have experience working on bikes, but I have mechanical experience. I wanted something that I could work on, but more importantly, that wouldn't need a lot of work. That put me on a search for single speed bikes. The Harper Coaster absolutely fit all of my criteria. The bike came packaged surprisingly well. Everything was covered and protected, with no shipping damage. All the parts were pristine, with beautiful paint. After un-boxing, next came the assembly. This was the simplest assembly of anything I've had to assemble that I can remember. Great for the price, So far!*

So far this bike and been very good for the price. The frame is lighter than I expected. All the components are decent and to be what's expected for a low price bike. The only thing that feels very cheap is the saddle.Pros: -The bike looks very nice and the design is clean. -The setup is extremely easy if you have a basic knowledge of bikes. -The frame is relatively light for steel. Not super light but better than I expected.Cons: -The saddle is cheap and mildly uncomfortable -The stock tubes seem to be cheap (I got a flat back tire after just a couple days) Upgrades: -Get yourself a better saddle -Grab some good tubes and maybe a better model tire Overall I'm very happy with the bike. It rides very nice and the coaster brakes work well. The only thing that worries me is that the bike might start to break down after riding for awhile. I live in a semi-metropolitan area but only ride on... 4/5 Eric M. - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) 5/5 MamaSays - See all my reviews This review is from: Bell Sports 7015913 Bicycle Fix Cable Set I thought that you got 4 cables when you ordered 4. You get 4 SETS of cables when you order 4. If you only have one bike, order ONE.They work as they should, and even though I have too many cables, I still don't think I paid that much for them. Great, but beware if your bike has index shifting.

As noted by a few other reviewers, the shifter housings are not 'compression-less'. This means that if your bike has index shifting, like 99% of the bikes sold on the market today, you will probably get 'sloppy' shifting at best or in some cases it may not work at all. With that said, if you are not a very serious cyclist or triathlete, sloppy shifting is not really a huge deal breaker. I wouldn't recommend this set to overhaul a $2,000 road bike, but the majority of users are probably on hybrids or similar style bikes that retail for $400 or less. In that case, I think this set is a fantastic value.A caveat; if you decide to install the shifter housings on your index shifting system, keep in mind that it will work best on 7 and 8 speed systems which tend to be less 'finicky'. The 9,10, and 11 speed systems are probably best used with an SIS compatible housing, which can be purchased separately and used with the cables in this kit.Other than the... 4/5 Jose Sanchez (Miami, FL) - See all my reviews, June 7, 2014

Good if you are clueless about bike repair

2/5 Dinny and Mbankat (Boston, MA USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Bell Sports 7015913 Bicycle Fix Cable Set It is a cheap set, so if cost is your first and highest priority, then okay, but if you REALLY want your cables repaired, spend a few more bucks and get a decent set of cables.First, ALL the cable housings that come in the package are for brake cables – they are NOT meant to be used on shift cables.Second, the none of the housings have an inner Teflon (or some other typical material) tube... which most (even mid-decent quality) shifter cable housings have to prevents metal to metal friction; so for shifters, this set-up WILL damage your cable and prevent it from sliding better.SO - This is a decent deal if you are replacing the brake cables and plan to throw the shifter cables away; 5 bucks you get 4 cables decent cables, and two just okay brake housings, and two really not good for shifter housings.
