A steal - universal cables and plenty of housing.

I am refurbishing some older bikes (one from the 1960's and another from 1976) and needed new brake and shift cables which have a different end than most of the ones currently sold. Modern cables are around $1 each if purchased in lots of 10 and usually come with the Shimono type knobs or heads only. Some older bikes need the Campenolo type cables which have different knobs. One can buy "universal" cables like this which have a Campanolo knob at one end and the Shimono at the other but they tend to be pretty pricey. This kit contains universal cables and hosing, which when purchased separately goes for $2 to $4 a foot from local bike stores or on-line. The package comes with four cables - brake cables with housing lengths of 2 feet (front) and 5 feet (rear) and two shift... 5/5 Empulse - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) 5/5 hotdog428 - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Bell PITCREW Bike Cable Change Kit (Sports) These are a really good low-cost cable set. The housings don't compress by any noticeable amount under hard braking although I'm sure they still do a little bit. It is also very easy to make a clean cut when shortening the housings, unlike others I've worked with. These are hard to beat for the price - I think you'd have to spend much more to get a set of noticeably better (or high performance) cables and housings. I bought three more sets for other bike projects after using one on my commuter. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 10, 2014

    Low to Mid Level Quality

3/5 Dave - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Bell PITCREW Bike Cable Change Kit (Sports) Nothing about these cables makes them unusable, and due to their price point they may be ideal for cyclists with strict budgets (like me) or cyclists riding budget bikes. However...1) Shifting effort is higher than with my old, rusty cables. I recommend lubricating these while installing them.2) Cable stretch is noticeable while braking. There is altogether too much motion in my brake lever between first contact between pad and rotor and the wheel locking up.3) The front brake cable too short to reach a disc brake, although its length would be fine for rim brakes. 3/5 jodyok01 - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Critical Cycles Judd Folding Single Speed Bike with Coaster Brake (Sports) We just received it the other day. It came mostly assembled however there were several small pieces that we had no idea where they go/come from. The owner's manual is just a basic bike manual on how to take care of A bike, not our bike. There is a suggestion to email the manufactures for questions? Wondering also if we HAVE to take it to a bike shop in order to maintain the warranty on this bike. Will need another seat or a gel seat cover if there is to be any long distance riding. Update will follow as we continue to use the bike. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , June 9, 2017
