Surprisingly awesome, simple bike for little money

I haven't ridden a bike in several years, and before that I've only owned mountain bikes. I decided that I wanted to try commuting to work via bike, so I began my search for an appropriate bike. The bike had to cost less than $200, since, if I'm being honest, I might have bailed on the commuting plan after the first ride. I needed a low barrier for entry, and little invested. The bike also had to be simple. I don't have experience working on bikes, but I have mechanical experience. I wanted something that I could work on, but more importantly, that wouldn't need a lot of work. That put me on a search for single speed bikes. The Harper Coaster absolutely fit all of my criteria. The bike came packaged surprisingly well. Everything was covered and protected, with no shipping damage. All the parts were pristine, with beautiful paint. After un-boxing, next came the assembly. This was the simplest assembly of anything I've had to assemble that I can remember. Put on... 5/5 Chris Moore - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Good for the price, but will need maintenance to achieve optimal performance

Aesthetically, this bike is fantastic. It's got a great looking matte finish that I love. In terms of mechanics, however, it leaves a lot to be desired. While Critical Cycles advertises that it uses name brand components on its bikes, this should not be taken to mean that said components are of the highest possible quality. In particular, the crankset is pretty crummy and the chain line was completely off (even after adjustment) due to the fact that the bottom bracket was the wrong size.Since replacing both the crankset and the bottom bracket, this bike has been great. I should note though that removing components from this bike (even with a liberal application of WD-40) was a real knuckle-buster. Even with the right tools I was not able to remove the stock crankset without ruining the stock bottom bracket (not that it mattered anyway because the bottom bracket was much too wide). With all of that having been said, if you're looking for an affordable new bike to... 3/5 Amazon Customer - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) I am going to put these on soon, but ...

I am going to put these on soon, but I wanted to clear up some confusion that I out there on this product. There are 2 different lines, the 500 series and the 600 series. The 500 series is for older bikes that use friction shifting, while the 600 series is for indexed shifting on newer bikes. To tell the difference check if your bike has shifting that has a numbered set of stops for the various gears. If it does then you have indexed shifting and the shifter cables for the 500 series will not work as well with the shifters on your bike. So remember, if your bike has shifting that has a number that corresponds to a gear you need the 600 series. I will return a verdict on this product once I have installed them.Update: Still haven't installed them but was looking at what comes with kit. The box says that there are instructions included, but they are not present. You will have to find instructions for installation on web or in a book (I recommend Zinn). A steal - universal cables and plenty of housing.

I am refurbishing some older bikes (one from the 1960's and another from 1976) and needed new brake and shift cables which have a different end than most of the ones currently sold. Modern cables are around $1 each if purchased in lots of 10 and usually come with the Shimono type knobs or heads only. Some older bikes need the Campenolo type cables which have different knobs. One can buy "universal" cables like this which have a Campanolo knob at one end and the Shimono at the other but they tend to be pretty pricey. This kit contains universal cables and hosing, which when purchased separately goes for $2 to $4 a foot from local bike stores or on-line. The package comes with four cables - brake cables with housing lengths of 2 feet (front) and 5 feet (rear) and two shift... 5/5 Empulse - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) 5/5 hotdog428 - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Bell PITCREW Bike Cable Change Kit (Sports) These are a really good low-cost cable set. The housings don't compress by any noticeable amount under hard braking although I'm sure they still do a little bit. It is also very easy to make a clean cut when shortening the housings, unlike others I've worked with. These are hard to beat for the price - I think you'd have to spend much more to get a set of noticeably better (or high performance) cables and housings. I bought three more sets for other bike projects after using one on my commuter. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 10, 2014

Super easy! Comes about 90% done for you

Just assembled it myself today. Super easy! Comes about 90% done for you. All you need to do is install the seat, handle bars, pedals, and front wheel. I think it took me longer to unbox it than it did to assemble it! Which means it came packaged very well. Everything is wrapped and protected. After assembly, took it on a short test ride. So far feels really solid. Looks beautiful and the seat is very comfortable for a cheap bike. Feels more comfortable than my road bike seat! The gearing is set up really nice. Gets you to a nice cruising speed! Also is surprisingly lite. Expected it to be heavier especially for how solid it feels when ridding it. My buddy has a 6KU track fixie, and the pure fix feels way more solid and more comfortable for a commuter/puts around town bike. His 6KU is set up more like a road bike and rides a lot more harsh. Not sure if all of pure fix cycles come this way. But the Thickslicks are amazing, good looking and ride really soft. Great Commuting Bike

I have around a 2 mile commute back and forth from home and work depending on my route with a total of 8 miles (including back and forth for lunch) and have waited a few months to write a review. So far I've put about 500 miles on this bike in the past 2 months. This bike is definitely solid. I had no problems with scratches, gouges, or striped pedals or anything like that during assembly. I haven't had a single problem with the inner tubes either, aside from the normal tire pressure drop after a couple weeks. I used to do this commute with a department store mountain bike and have made my ride extremely easier. The bike is pretty light from my experience of bikes, I haven't any top of the line road bikes or anything like that but for my purposes this thing is perfect. The paint does scratch when locking it against the a rack or having other bikes hit it but if your really nit picky about scratches, the only way your going to avoid scratching any bike is if you don't... 5/5 dTonaz - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) best fixed gear bike for the price.

I have wanted a fixed gear bike for a few years now but never pulled the trigger. A few years ago I found a Panasonic road bike for $40 that I picked up on craigslist. I was surprised at how great that bike was and I got it at a steal. After riding to and from school in downtown Atlanta I wanted to try a fixed gear. This is my first fixie and I'm loving it. The ride is so smooth and much quieter than a bike road switching gears. The ride is a little more stiff compared to my 29s but I prefer it that way. Hills in Atlanta are gonna kick my butt with this thing but its exactly everything I wanted. I was especially impressed with the package when it arrived. Everything was well wrapped and secure with foam and bubble wrap. It was enjoyable to put together too. It comes with the flip flop hub as well which was a main requirement for me since I am new to the single speed and fixie scene.Overall I love this bike and would recommend it to anyone. 5/5 Lucas (Indianapolis, IN) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Pure Fix 42cm Alloy Bull Horn Handlebar (Sports) I have been using this product, along with SRAM Supercork Bicycle Bar Tape for over three months now, and I couldn't be happier with the performance and appearance of these bars. I ride fixed with no brakes, and these bars allow me to put weight farther forward to skid pretty easily. I am on the heavy side for a bike rider at 180 lbs, and I have never felt any flex or worried about them giving out on me. I can also attest to the durability of these bars after a late night of drinking and riding (not recommended), that ended with me trying to touch my friends back tire with my front one and my bike sliding across pavement. My grip tape was pretty trashed but the bars and the finish on them was solid. They also look way better than riser bars, and I get complimented on them pretty regularly. This review is from: Pure Fix Riser Handlebars (Sports) I've been using these bars for about 6 months now and they have been great. they are the perfect width for me and the sweep of them is just right for comfort. I have the white bars which i believe are the only ones that are painted and not anodized. The finish is very high quality, and is the only painted piece on my bike that doesn't have any paint chips on it. during my spring cleaning i removed the bars from the stem, and the paint under the stem and brakes was still intact. Great product, and if you've ever dealt with Pure Fix, they are a great company as well., April 14, 2015

    Great Riser Handlebars

I purchased this product for my friend's bike, which I am rebuilding as a surprise present while he is out of the country. After searching almost every bike place around Chicago—where we live—and all the bike websites I know of, I decided on Fure Fix's chiefly because of three main factors: 1) dimensions & color, 2) price, 3) they are almost exactly like the pair we saw on a bike last summer, which he told me he'd like on his ride someday. The bars were shipped exactly on the day they were advertised. The product was well wrapped in packaging and were in mint condition when removed from the box. They fit perfectly within the bike's original stem that is over 30 years old. Once tightened, they do not move around and feel completely secure when I put pressure onto the bars, head tube and fork. They look AWESOME on the bike and completely alter the presentation of the ride—all for the better! I would totally recommend this product to anyone that is looking for a... 5/5 KJD - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Love these!

5/5 Melisa Garrison (Tennessee) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Pure Fix Riser Handlebars (Sports) When I bought my bike, it was used and came with bullhorn handlebars (which is not something I was used to riding with). I had heard amazing things about pure fix parts and decided to order these and I was not disappointed at all. They were a perfect fit and very comfortable to use. They are also very well made and amazing for the cost. My fiancé actually bout a pure fix bike after I put these puppies on my bike. Would highly recommend!
