Must-have supplemental anatomy text for professional students

I am a first year medical student and find that this is a great tool to use when for studying for practicals. For me, the two best features are:-The lines that point to structures only have numbers on them, with a small area of the page that says what those numbers correspond to. This makes it very easy to test yourself. The downside to this is that if it is your first exposure to the structures you're looking at, you'll be constantly looking at numbers and finding the corresponding name, which isn't as quick & easy as if the lines were labeled with the name of the structure. However, this is also why it's good to have some familiarity with the structures before using this book by, say, studying the first time with a regular anatomy book.-This being photographs of real bodies means that you see all of the tissue types in every image, and they are well labeled. I find it easier to remember what nerve or artery supplies a given muscle if I can see them both... 5/5 Xitomatl (Olympia, WA USA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Where to start?

0 5/5 Resident - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Color Atlas of Anatomy: A Photographic Study of the Human Body (Hardcover) Rohen is seminal to every facet of anatomy I care to think of. The extremely high quality of the prosections aid in lab and dissection work, the few diagrams clearly express functional relationships and the image and binding quality superb. This new edition has added a badly needed online consult and as with previous editions tweaking of the image content (this does however differ little from previous editions). Rohen does need to be used in conjunction with more typical atlases, commonly Netter's or Grant's as due to its purely pictorial nature some information is obscured. That being said Rohen is as close as you can get to learning human anatomy without having wet specimens sitting in front of you.To put it simply Rohen is the bomb. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , July 15, 2010

There is no actual program. No human body, no bones, no interactive stuff EXCEPT a link to their website to buy more programs. I bought a disk that only lets me into a website where they want me to buy more stuff? I can't believe Amazon is allowing these con artists to sell their product here. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 4, 2010

However, I found it to be somewhat too basic for my purposes. Would prefer many more graphics, photos, and much deeper in depth material. Still, not a bad tool for learning and relearning the amazing human body. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , January 16, 2010

"With the toe bone connectedto the foot bone, and the foot bone connectedto the ankle bone, and the ankle bone connectedto the leg bone.Oh mercy how they scare!"(from Dry Bones)A.D.A.M. is an acronym for "Animated Dissection of Anatomy for Medicine", and was developed as an interactive CD-ROM, allowing students to practice by performing dissections digitally. This student atlas offers three dimensional full color illustrations and cadaveric photographs as well as posterior, medial and lateral views of hard to understand areas of the human body. It also includes a free one year subscription to the Online Anatomy database, which has more than 20,000 dissectible structures. The atlas contains eight chapters - Trunk: Body Wall and Spine; Thorax; Abdomen; Pelvis and Perineum; Lower Limb; Upper Limb; Hand and Neck, and lastly, Cranial and Autonomic Nerves. Fantastic resource for learning and reviewing anatomy

This excellent atlas of the human anatomy attempts to provide a more three-dimensional representation of the human body than similar publications. It fully succeeds to the degree possible in a printed medium. The presentation works by showing the various regions or sections of the body at various angles and at posterior, medial, and lateral viewpoints.Instead of relying solely on illustrations (as the venerable "Gray's Anatomy" does), this atlas also employs superb photographs from cadavers and selected radiographs. But let's go back to the illustrations. These detailed, finely rendered color illustrations set this atlas apart. Pairing these with the photographs allows one to clearly see structures, tissues, and organs.A brief but thorough user's guide clearly explains how to effectively use this atlas. Armed with an understanding of how of how the images are labeled, what nomenclature is used, and which abbreviations have been appropriated, even a lay person can... 5/5 loce_the_wizard "loce_the_wizard" (Lilburn, GA USA) - See all my reviews, September 17, 2003

    It's the HDR-HC1 on steroids

Correction: High-definition video camera records in 1080i, or 480 NTSC (known as standard DV or DV) specification with analog down-converting. -->It does NOT record in 720p, or 720i. However, this is not an issue, just a correction. Also, all the output (for editing) is firewire; a digital format. You can watch the output on a TV using composite, svhs or component. Audio is RCA L/R.As the other gentleman observed, this is more a serious amateur (dare I say pro?) camcorder that begs to be used. This is far more than the average user would want or need. It's bigger and heavier than the basic camcorder. But it shoots HDV 1080i and has gained a reputation as a documentary camera in situations where the camera may get damaged.Key features over the sibling HC1 and HC3It's same size as the HC1, except the added on audio "stalk".No built in flash, but you are shooting video, not stills.Audio is far more flexible than the other ones. HC3 is in-camera... 4/5 J. A Harring (Fla) - See all my reviews, July 29, 2006

    Real Professional Camcorder

This camcorder is from the Sony Professional division with pro level warranty support. Sound is 70% of the experience and this camcorder delivers pro level XLR connectors with 48V power. For best sound results manually set the volume as high as possble keeping the peaks below 0db. The CMOS sensor produces amazing HD quality. A head shot of a person wearing a ball cap facing into strong direct sun with a deep shadow across their face does not blow out the highlights and shows full details in the shadow. I'm using Sony Vegas 7 to edit the results and I'm very happy with both the camcorder and Vegas. This is bigger than the small consumer camcords but is about the same size as my old Sony Digital 8 camcorder and it's smaller than any other pro camcorder. Pro shooters are always amazed and comment on how small it is. Nothing produces this level of pro results without spending a lot more money. While as good or better than the current crop of small HD consumer... 5/5 Konrad Haskins (USA) - See all my reviews, October 10, 2006

The best permaculture book to start with

The title really says it all. For those unfamiliar with the concept, permaculture, as defined in this work, is "applied disturbance ecology". The fundamental idea being that working with the land allows an optimized native ecosystem which is productive, supports life, and requires minimal maintenance. The term was first proposed by Bill Mollison and Dave Holmgren and first published in book form in , and more extensively fleshed out in , but these are the kinds of works which beg for explanation. I've been gardening, homesteading, medium scale farming/ranching in three states (MO, northern CA & NM) and five properties in the past nearly 50 years, have an extensive library, subscribe to several excellent relevant publications, am constantly learning and expanding my skills & horizons. Yes, I have and love resources from John Seymour, Gene Logsdon, Sepp Holzer, Joel Salatin, a HUGE amount of permaculture texts, gardening, homesteading, grass farming, sustainability, etc., WHICH ARE IMMEASURABLY VALUABLE, but this is right up there with the best.
