This review is from: Bernzomatic AL3 Aluminum Brazing/Welding Rods with 12-Inch Rods of Working Temperature 700-750 Degrees, 2-Piece (Tools & Home Improvement) Teamed with a propane torch- this is about the only way short of heli-arc welding to non-mechanically fabricate aluminum parts together. It does pay to be careful that you get the metal hot enough to allow the rod to melt, wet, and flow smoothly, - - but not hot enough to soften or melt the aluminum you are joining. Because there is no color change in the metal as there is with steel (red, orange, white hot) you need to pay attention and repeatedly test while heating as to when the work pieces are hot enough to melt the rod. A great option to have when you don't or cant bolt, sheet metal screw, nuts and bolts, or screw and tap. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , July 10, 2010

Fantastic, but takes a little practice!

0 5/5 Vintageradio (USA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Bernzomatic AL3 Aluminum Brazing/Welding Rods with 12-Inch Rods of Working Temperature 700-750 Degrees, 2-Piece (Tools & Home Improvement) I use these along with Forney's ALUM-A-FLUX. Start by cleaning the joint well with a stainless steel brush. It is important to use stainless and not some other material. Get the rod hot (but not melting) dip it in the dry powder flux. Heat the joint well with a MAPP torch, from all sides. Then apply the rod/flux to the joint. AS SOON as the flux begins to melt draw the rod along the seam of the joint. With a little practice you'll get great welds!Forney 37025 Aluminum Welding Flux, 4-Ounce 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 17, 2014

This review is from: Bernzomatic NS3 Nickel-Silver Flux Coated Brazing/Welding Rods, 2-Piece (Tools & Home Improvement) Teamed with a MAP gas torch, a handy way for an occasional repair of small fab job by a handyman or home owner. Great for infrequent small jobs, but an expensive way to buy brazing rod. Much cheaper when purchased from a welding shop in 1 lb (or greater) quantities, but great for an infrequent need or small job. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , July 10, 2010

    Wonderful material brazes many materials

Several years ago I was in a welding store looking over all the brazing rods. I had not seen these rods before and asked if they were worth their higher price. I was told that I could almost braze anything with these except aluminum. I have found that I can braze small plated parts and today I brazed some beaters (for a mixer) whose rivet had loosened and they were spinning on the shaft. This brazing material is nickel colored and looked nice on the beaters. You have to use a pretty hot mapp gas torch--my current favorite for brazing work is .This torch was barely hot enough for the beater repair -- it did the job and after a little wet and dry sand paper to take the slag off of the beaters and a little jeweler's rouge on a buffer to polish them, they looked very... 5/5 Wood worker and techy guy (San Francisco Bay Area, CA) - See all my reviews This review is from: Bernzomatic NS3 Nickel-Silver Flux Coated Brazing/Welding Rods, 2-Piece (Tools & Home Improvement) Several years ago I was in a welding store looking over all the brazing rods. GOOD STUFF MAYNARD!

0 5/5 mark palacio - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) I milled an extra hole through an 80% receiver and thought I blew it! I thought about it and first considered Devcon aluminum putty good stuff a little pricey. I watched the demo video on alumaloy and figured of what the HE double toothpicks give it a try. Now be patient boys when you use it it takes time to heat and you want to practice on something with a hole in it to learn how to pool the product over the hole. Well you betchum little beaver that hole I made all but disappeared! I was a little shocked as im ok with my hands but a novice with welding/soldering. I dremeled the piece and the results look like a pro! not to toot my own horn of course but this product has my thumbs way up! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , April 16, 2014

rod did not flow like the video showed

0 1/5 MICHAEL S RATHJE - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: ALUMALOY 5 Rods: Aluminum REPAIR Rods No Welding Fix Cracks Drill Tap Polish or Paint (Misc.) Recieved my order yesterday and after inspecting the "rods" that were sent to me , they were diffrent than pictured . I watched the video on how to apply the product and tried to repair my project , didnt work, rod did not flow like the video showed. But like i said earlier they were diffrent from the pictures on this ad . I would suggest getting the product straight from the manfacturer. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , February 10, 2015
