Canoe and Kayak Routes of Northwest Oregon, Including Southwest Washington

Creator: Philip N. Jones | 2007-04-30

Of the three, aluminum was the first to appear when, in 1945, Grumman Aircraft sought a peacetime product to replace its declining aircraft sales. The resulting aluminum canoes were hailed as very durable, and Grumman and other ...

Publisher: The Mountaineers Books

About this book
Phillip Jones has been exploring the Northwest by canoe and kayak for more than 20 years, and presents his favourite outings in this completely revised guide to paddling the flat-water rivers and lakes of northwest Oregon and southwest Washington. Most of these trips can be done in a day, although some can be combined for longer journeys. For each trip, you'll find complete information on where to launch, trip rating, distance, best time to go, points of interest, hazards, portages, and more. You'll find outings on the Willamette River and its tributaries, Oregon coastal rivers, the Columbia Gorge and the lower Columbia River, the Oregon Cascades, and southwest Washington. There are also tips on canoe and kayak paddling techniques, safety techniques, what to do if you capsize, transporting boats, and shuttling cars.

0 5/5 Luann Miller - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Carlisle Economy Aluminum Canoe Paddle with T-Grip (Sports) These are a great quality. Someone said that they rub or turn your hands color. I'm here to tell you they don't!!! We just did an 8 mile float during a BAD thunderstorm. It was more or a paddle trip instead of a float trip. These paddles did GREAT. Never rubbed or left color on your hands. Someone also complained about the stickers being on the paddles. Who cares!!! The stickers come of so easy and don't leave that nasty sticky stuff behind. These are great paddles. Lightweight, durable, perfect for an afternoon on the river!!!! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , June 30, 2014

This review is from: Carlisle Standard Polyethylene Clad Aluminum Canoe Paddle with T-Grip (Sports) I have wooden paddles which look nice but I use this paddle most often, that is 99% of the time. It has a vinyl covered shaft which insulates your hands from the cold aluminum. They are inexpensive so I don't mind shoving off rocks and stone beaches. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , February 12, 2010

0 5/5 stevedonzi - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Carlisle Standard Polyethylene Clad Aluminum Canoe Paddle with T-Grip (Sports) These paddles are strong and of great quality. Some "experts" probably have something negative to say about them because they arent 100 dollar a piece paddles, but these paddles are built well, strong and are working ou t great. They are not weak paddles, they can handle the abuse. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , September 7, 2012

    Light, sturdy

0 5/5 Island Review - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Solstice 4 piece Quick Release Paddle (Sports) I purchased this so I could travel from Hawaii to float the Green River below Flaming Gorge Reservoir in Utah, in an inflatable kayak. I wanted a 4 piece paddle so I could ship it in my checked baggage along with the kayak. I have 4 kayaks, which I and my family use on a regular basis in Hawaii, so I had an idea of what I needed for "power". This paddle was more than I expected (as was the Green River). Although I put a lot of pressure on it occasionally, it performed flawlessy and it never felt weak. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , October 18, 2013

    Great Purchase!

0 4/5 Amanda H. - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Solstice 4 piece Quick Release Paddle (Sports) I bought this after my last paddle broke after only a few times out with it. This has held up much better. Have taken it in rivers and lakes, it's hit some rocks and you can barely notice anything. The 4 pieces make it much easier to travel with than most paddles with only 2 or 3 pieces. The grips are really soft and keep your hands from slipping around. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , October 25, 2013

0 5/5 Kyle Mac - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Solstice 4 piece Quick Release Paddle (Sports) I'm new to riding a kayak but these paddles are the best I've used so far ( out of 2 ) the paddles have a good shape and the grip feels great. They are also light weight. I would recommend them for any water source. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , June 30, 2012

0 1/5 Zach - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Super easy extending/retracting

I have more than 1 set of these to go with some inflatable rafts and like the fact that they can go small for storage, but don't need unscrewing or have little parts to lose etc. To extend it, you just twist the end handle and mid section ~90 degrees each (the same way as loosening bolts), pull it out however far you want, and twist them back to lock them in place (taking all of 5 seconds). You can keep twisting it all day in the direction for loosening, so the top handle piece can end up in any position you like (you just have to start tightening it with it ~90 degrees away from where you want it to end up). The blade is totally flat with no curve or bumps(except for the center area where the rods go inside), so if you are concerned with how it "grips the water" or such it may not be the greatest. Once done using them, I did notice some water got inside them which I couldn't get out except by extending & retracting them to try and "Pump" it out along the rods where they slide... 5/5 Thomas H.
