0 5/5 Amazon Customer (Missouri) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) The proportioning valve is a brushed aluminum GM universal style proportioning valve for those who are converting to front disc brakes. The product came new with a vendors catalog in the box. This did NOT come with any brake lines (nor did the description say it would) nor did it come with instructions (again, none were advertized). A quick internet search for a diagram detailed how it should be installed.I am very happy with this, my car now stops like a dream and has a solid pedal when applying the brake. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? , August 28, 2013

This purchase was a gamble because I really wasn't interested in what I feared would be extra drag and weight just to power a headlight that I might rarely use. 20k miles on it, going strong; still happy with it.

I like this hub a lot, particularly for my previous, 10 mile, unlit bike path commute (with Busch & Muller Cyo light - also excellent).Braking: could be better. When new it's pretty bad, but gets better over the next couple of hundred miles. Better than an old single-pivot caliper, not really as good as a modern dual-pivot, let alone cantis, linear pull, disks. Still, quite adequate mostly. Not *entirely* maintenance free - eventually get dirty and water does get in there, at which point braking is not as good and they can even stick on. At worst I had them lock on, when very dirty. Cleaning isn't too onerous, and typically once every 3-5k miles. Braking is quite bad the morning after a wet ride home, as some sort of grime has to be dealt with.Drag: quite apparent when spinning the wheel, not apparent with > 200lb momentum. The bike glides along nicely. It'd be nice if drag was lower, but for the typical <15 mile commute I don't think it's nearly as... 4/5 jimmyfergus - See all my reviews This review is from: Sturmey Archer Dynamo Drum brake Front Hub 36h, Silver I like this hub a lot, particularly for my previous, 10 mile, unlit bike path commute (with Busch & Muller Cyo light - also excellent).Braking: could be better. However, after building it into the wheel, the resistance is hardly noticeable when spun by hand. While pedaling I can't tell there is anything resisting me at all. The lights I paired it with give me amazing illumination.I love the brake too. It seems to have less stopping power than the rim brakes I'm used to, but it could easily be that my levers are a poor match to this hub brake. Either way I have stopping power that keeps me safe from running into traffic and still objects when I'd rather not. I can't lock the wheel, but I that would be stupid to lock up your front wheel anyhow.I ride this bike in the rain, and there is no change in... 5/5 Patrick Prescott (Fort Collins, CO) - See all my reviews, October 8, 2012

Does the Job as Intended

0 5/5 TCH (Kansas) - See all my reviews This review is from: Tiedown Engineering 81107 DRUM BRAKE FLUSH KIT (Misc.) This kit came pre-installed on my boat trailer. It's not perfect, but it works. I've removed the brake drums for service and checked the spray pattern of this product. The inside of the brake drum gets a good bath, which has to limit corrosion -vs- doing nothing. The other reviewer appears to be inept and complaining unnecessarily about drilling for installation. An 11/16 bit with a 3/8 shank is about $16 at your local Depot. So, what are your options? 1) install this product 2) buy a $500 disc brake kit and install it.BTW, I replaced pads and other brake components after more than 6 years of use in salt water (didn't feel compelled to switch to disc brakes considering the cost), but I'll probably go to disc brakes in about another 6 years when the drums may finally have excessive rust. Hope this helps someone. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? , August 22, 2013

brake flush kit

0 4/5 Sam - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Tiedown Engineering 81107 DRUM BRAKE FLUSH KIT (Misc.) It was ok and works fine. It could use a few more zip ties and a few more feet of tubing. It seems a bit pricey for the actual materials provided. Truthfully, the kit does exactly what its supposed to do and flush out the salt water from inside the brake drums and it should at least double the life expectancy of the brake assembly which in the long run will save both time and expense related to trailer brake replacements so i believe its worth the expense. Its my experience that the biggest killer of marine brakes in salt water boat trailers is corrosion, not wear, so hopefully this will help prevent the need to replace trailer brake assemblies every 2 years. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? , September 6, 2013

poor product description

0 1/5 Larry Wasserman - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Tiedown Engineering 81107 DRUM BRAKE FLUSH KIT (Misc.) It would have been nice if the product description stated that a 11/16 inch metal cutting drill bit is needed but not included. This a very expensive drill bit and normally is used in a bench press drill which is pretty impossible to use on my drum brakes! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? , June 28, 2012

The oversized master cylinder design positively provides for quicker stops when using traditional drum brakes due to the significantly higher pressures.
Tie Down Engineering's brake actuators represents over five years of product development and three years of continuous testing.
Even the coupler is manufactured out of heavier gauge steel when compared to all other 6,600# capacity.
The unique all aluminum master cylinder incorporates the shock absorber into the master cylinder assembly.

Sturmey Archer 3-speed hub

0 4/5 Beach Bum - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Sturmey Archer S30 3-Speed 36h, Internal Drum Brake I like and use this 3 speed hub on a custom beach cruiser. It is inexpensive, available and works silky smooth. The built in brake is a plus to keep out sand and allows you to reposition the bike pedals for a strong take off from a traffic light. My only negative point is that the gears are wide where a regular derailer would have 5 gear steps that this hub spans with three. So, this results in a transition of pedaling too fast then too slow with a gear change on the road. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? , October 24, 2010

works great with 42 tooth sprocket

0 5/5 Purviance (Los Angeles, CA USA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Sturmey Archer S30 3-Speed 36h, Internal Drum Brake I really like this 3 speed hub. I converted my bike to a cargo bike (xtra-cycle) the same time I got this hub. I originally had a 38 tooth single speed sprocket on the front. The 3-speed hub didn't work too well with that 38 tooth sprocket. (Had to hold the shifter down to stay in 1st gear.)Got a 42 tooth sprocket from amazon and the bike really works superb now, better with this 3 speed than with the original Nexus 7. I knew this 3-speed shifter was the one I wanted, from when I was a kid riding my cousin's Raleigh. Really impressed by it then and like it a lot now. Seems stronger, smoother, more mechanically sound than the nexus. Riding in the rain probably did the nexus in. Won't need to ride in the rain with this one but bet it would hold up if I did.Recommend the cargo bike too. Really nice to have. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews Was this review helpful to you? , January 6, 2012

Great bang for your buck

I have the hub from the fishing reel company and the one with the artists name and 2 of these from SA. They are all different and they are all different compared to a deraillreurs. With the SA you cannot play around with the way this works with the dropouts on your frame, in other words, do not try to loosen the axle to clock this one to work, you will mess up the way the bearing is adjusted and be in a spot with trying to bring it back to spec or not ruining it while riding on it in this state. This may be problematic considering the frame brace on this with the drum brake needs to be in a certain spot. I have one on my daughters bike with the front facing 45 deg dropout and on a track frame with horizontal dropouts and they both needed finagling to get right but they both work fine.Next, be mindful of how this is adjusted in second gear and don't ride it hard immediately because there is going to be cable stretch and loosening/re-tightening of the cable as you... 5/5 DF - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?)
